HelloFresh is one of the biggest names in the meal delivery service industry. But, how does this service – one of the top three on our list of the Best Meal Delivery Services – stack up against PeachDish, a lesser-known company?
In case you hadn’t heard, PeachDish was a Georgia-based company that shut down in 2019, but it’s still worth talking about since its popular recipes can be found on the PeachDish YouTube channel.
So, let’s get into it. I’ve scoured the internet to compare menu variety, dietary preferences, starting prices, and prep time to find out who really wins when it comes to HelloFresh vs. PeachDish.
Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Calorie Smart
25 recipes per week

$12.50 per serving

When you’re picking a meal delivery service, dietary preferences are going to be one of your top priorities. I’m a vegetarian, so having a lot of tasty veggie options is always something I’m looking for.
Let’s start with the options for HelloFresh. There are six meal plans to choose from, which include options for vegetarians and pescatarians. However, there aren’t many options for vegans, those with allergies, and anyone who follows a gluten-free diet.
Now, let’s go into the options from PeachDish. Recipes from PeachDish cover vegan diets, vegetarian diets, gluten-free, and standard meat and fish diets.
And, since PeachDish doesn’t deliver its own ingredients anymore, you can tweak the recipes to fit your specific dietary needs.
One common critique of meal delivery services is that they only have a set number of recipes to choose from. That’s why it’s important to find a service with a lot of variety in its menu so you don’t get bored.
Georgia-based PeachDish prides itself on good old-fashioned southern cooking, with innovative twists. These include recipes from guest chefs like Cynthia Graubart with her Country Captain with Rice, Almonds, and Mango Chutney.
Unfortunately, PeachDish isn’t bringing out new recipes anymore, so you’ll be limited to the 27 recipes in the Chefs and Menus playlist on the PeachDish YouTube channel.
HelloFresh is the polar opposite. There are 25 different recipes to choose from every week, which is almost as many as PeachDish has in total.
You also get a much wider variety of cuisines with HelloFresh, ranging from classic Americana to the internationally inspired Korean Beef Bibimbap.
Of course, HelloFresh isn’t perfect. For example, if you pick a more niche plan like the vegetarian or pescatarian plans, you’ll have fewer recipes to choose from. For example, I only found around four veggie recipes on any given weekly menu.
There are extras available like breakfasts, snacks, and sides, but you have to add them to an existing order.
Prices are tricky to compare, considering that one of these brands is a full meal delivery service and the other requires you to source all of your own ingredients. To make it easier, let’s run some of the numbers.
Prices for HelloFresh start at $3.79 per serving but can be as high as $12.49 if you have a small order. The most bare-bones plan will see you ordering two meals a week, each of which has two servings. Add the shipping cost of $8.99 plus a cost per serving of $12.49 and you’re looking at $58.95 per week.
On the other end of the spectrum, the largest order you can get from HelloFresh is six meals, each of which has four servings. At $3.79 per serving plus the shipping fee, this will cost $188.75 per box.
Now, for PeachDish. The price per serving of a PeachDish recipe will vary widely on where you live and where you’re shopping. PeachDish recipes from the company averaged out to around $12.50 per serving, but the most expensive was $34.
However, since we’re not really dealing with PeachDish’s pricing anymore, it’s easy to pare down the cost of a recipe using ingredient swaps and some bargain-hunting.
Winner: It’s a tie!
Meal prep is one of the defining factors of a good meal delivery service. The whole point of a meal delivery service is to save you time and if you opt for meal kits, you’ll gain skills in the kitchen too.
When it comes to HelloFresh and PeachDish, the prep times are pretty similar. HelloFresh has a slight advantage thanks to its Quick and Easy plan with recipes ready in less than 20 minutes. The other recipes on HelloFresh and all the ones I could find for PeachDish take around 30-45 minutes to make.
However, it’s important to think about how you’re getting the ingredients, too. HelloFresh delivers an insulated box packed with each ingredient pre-portioned for your recipes that week.
PeachDish, on the other hand, doesn’t have a delivery service anymore. So, you’ll have to make time to go grocery shopping with a comprehensive list of what you’ll need for each recipe.
The clear winner here is HelloFresh. It wins on meal prep and menu variety and has the convenience of delivery that lets you skip out on weekly grocery shopping.
PeachDish shouldn’t be forgotten, though, because it’s still a great resource for healthy and creative recipe inspo if you don’t mind shopping for ingredients and you don’t want to commit to a subscription-based meal delivery service.

Overall Winner: HelloFresh
PeachDish prices started at $12.50 a serving, making it considerably more expensive than HelloFresh’s $3.79 starting price. The meal delivery service market is fiercely competitive, and HelloFresh has become the market leader by offering fresh, seasonal produce with a focus on local suppliers at a very reasonable cost.
While PeachDish offered subscribers nine choices each week, HelloFresh offers a weekly menu of 25 dishes. PeachDish offered some tasty and healthy New South cuisine, but its steep price and limited selection made HelloFresh the best choice even before PeachDish’s closure.
In July 2019 PeachDish announced they were taking a summer break. It has been a very long summer. If you’re still missing PeachDish you’ll find HelloFresh offers a wider menu selection at a better price.
