If you like smoothies for breakfast, prefer a plant-based diet, and don’t enjoy cooking, these two meal delivery services are a great option. Both are convenient and feature a similar menu, so if you’re having trouble deciding which works best for you, I’m here to help you out!
Working with my expert team, I put together this Splendid Spoon vs. Revive Superfoods comparison, where I looked at each company’s menu, ordering system, delivery, prices, and more. So, if you’re looking for answers, make sure to read on.
For me, Splendid Spoon is the obvious top choice. That’s because, with Splendid Spoon, you get a more varied menu with lots of flavor options, so it’s easy to keep things interesting in the long run. However, Revive Superfoods is still growing, so this may change in the future.

Winner: Splendid Spoon
While both companies have similar plant-based menus (smoothies, bowls, soups, and more), Splendid Spoon wins this round due to its larger offer. Overall, Splendid Spoon has over 50 options, while Revive Superfoods only has around 30.
For now, Revive Superfoods’ offer is mostly smoothies (around 20), with a couple of açai bowls, three oats, four meals, three soups, and four options for dessert. So, if you’re not a smoothie person, there’s not a huge amount of alternatives.
Splendid Spoon, on the other hand, has a good selection of smoothies, noodle bowls, soups, and grain bowls. Plus, the extras are more varied, with cold-pressed juices and immune-boosting shots.
The bowls, soups, and noodles are plant-based versions of popular meals from Asian, Mexican, American, and Indian cuisines, like the Cauliflower Tikka Soup, a best-seller due to its anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-lowering properties.
The Revive Superfoods menu has a similar structure, but non-smoothie options are limited (at least, for now). I did, however, find the alternatives to smoothies fulfilling and refreshing. I mean, who doesn’t like a burrito bowl (the Chipotle & Black Bean option) from time to time?
When it comes to extras, I do prefer those from Revive Superfoods. That’s because, even though the options are limited, the offer includes oatmeal bites and frozen desserts. So, if I had to choose based on this category alone, Splendid Spoon wouldn’t be my first choice.
Still, Splendid Spoon has another ace up its sleeve with a special category on the menu – the seasonal meals. At the time of my review, the company was running its Fall Seasonal Meals campaign with a time-limited offer of a Pumpkin Spice Smoothie and Roasted Brussel Sprouts Grain bowl.

Both companies have an advanced filtering system that lets you organize the menu based on dietary preferences and your likes or dislikes. Also, in both cases, the meals are vegan and gluten-free, and offer options for people on high-protein or low-calorie diets.
Splendid Spoon’s filters make it easy to browse the menu, especially if you have strong taste preferences, such as no cilantro or no nuts. Plus, if you’re on a low-calorie diet, all you have to do is check the Lower Calorie box to see only those options.
Revive Superfoods’ filtering system is just as advanced as Splendid Spoon’s, but given the limited menu options, you don’t need it. Still, as the menu grows, the filters will prove a lot more useful. So, for now, it’s good to know they’re there. However, if you tick too many boxes, you risk running low on options in both cases.
Lastly, some of these meals (like soups, noodle bowls, grain meals, smoothies, and oats) require extra liquid to be ready to eat. This is your only chance to tweak the taste and make it “your own.”
You can change the smoothies from Revive Superfoods by adding water, milk, yogurt, juice, or something else. The same goes for the oats, which need to soak overnight. Splendid Spoon, on the other hand, invites you to choose the broth of your choice for the soups, noodles, and meals that need extra liquid.

Both services make it easy to place an order and subscribe to repeated deliveries. You set up an account, register your details (address, payment, preferences, and so on), and select the meals you want in your box.
If I were nit-picking, I would say that Splendid Spoon has a more rigid meal plan structure, while Revive Superfoods is more straightforward and lets you choose whatever you want from the menu as long as you meet the required number of items per box (9, 12, or 24 items).
However, as long as you meet the number of items required for the meal plan, Splendid Spoon provides you with the same level of freedom. So, if you choose the Breakfast, Lunch + Dinner meal plan, your box has to include seven smoothies, seven soups or grain bowls, and seven noodle bowls, but within that you’re free to choose whichever flavors you want.
Also, both brands have their own version of curated boxes. With Revive Superfoods, you can opt for boxes designed around a specific preference, such as the Low Calorie Box or the Protein+ Box, or a box that contains best-selling products on the menu. The last one is perfect for when you don’t feel like carefully choosing each item.
Splendid Spoon has a similar option (part of its commitment-free offer) called the On-Demand Box. This one is great if you want to try Splendid Spoon without making a long-term commitment. The boxes here include pre-grouped bundles of smoothies, bowls, juices, soups, and/or shots (you can select the flavors).
Both companies deliver weekly, but you can customize the delivery schedule to fit your needs. Splendid Spoon also offers deliveries every other week and once a month, while Revive Superfoods offers delivery options such as monthly and every two months.
Plus, you can choose the delivery day. Splendid Spoon delivers every Wednesday and Friday, while Revive Superfoods lets you choose from the available delivery days based on your location. You can edit your preferred delivery day using your online account.
Speaking of which, both companies make it easy to edit orders, pause deliveries, skip in advance, or cancel using your online account. Just make sure to respect the cutoff date and time, easily available on your profile, for each individual order.
To place an order, you have to meet the minimum requirements – seven food items for Splendid Spoon and nine items for Revive Superfoods. Splendid Spoon delivers all over the contiguous US, and Revive Superfoods delivers all over the US and Canada.
Once you get your box, you’ll see that Splendid Spoon uses 100% recyclable packaging. The food is nicely stacked inside, and everything is labeled with information on ingredients, storage conditions, and nutritional values. You should place everything in the refrigerator as soon as you can, but you can freeze some items for up to three months.
In truth, I found Revive Superfoods lacking in terms of its packaging and commitment to recycling because only the box and dry ice liner are fully recyclable. The cups are made from 35% post-consumer recycled fiber, so many locations don’t accept them for curbside recycling.
Inside the box, you’ll find your containers labeled with preparation and heating instructions. There’s also a reusable metal straw which you get for free with your first order. Overall, the company advises placing all the frozen items in the freezer at your earliest convenience.
Winner: Splendid Spoon
Both brands offer ready-to-eat meals, smoothies, and soups that take little to no time to prepare. However, Splendid Spoon has the slight edge due to its simpler prep process (plus, there’s virtually no cleaning if you use the microwave).
Also, Revive Superfoods delivers all its food items frozen, while Splendid Spoon uses a different process for different food items. The bowls are flash-frozen to lock in the nutrients, while the smoothies and shots are high-pressure processed and can be consumed as is.
In terms of preparation, Splendid Spoon’s soups, grain bowls, and noodle bowls need a few minutes in the microwave before they’re ready to eat. If you don’t have a microwave, you can heat the meals on a stovetop, but it will take a few extra minutes.
Revive Superfoods keeps things simple as well, but the preparation method differs for each meal type. For the smoothies, you have to fill the cup with the liquid of your choice and then transfer everything into a blender. The meals and soups only need two to four minutes in the microwave or on the stovetop, but you have to add liquid to the soup containers.
The oats need overnight soaking before eating, and the bites need a few minutes in the microwave or oven. Lastly, frozen desserts can be consumed after they’ve been out of the freezer for a few minutes.
Winner: Splendid Spoon
Both companies have excellent customer service teams, but I found Revive Superfoods’ FAQ section a bit too short (especially compared to Splendid Spoon’s). Still, both brands have well-stocked blogs where you can find recipes, tips, news, and more.
Splendid Spoon is reachable via email, Facebook messenger, and contact form, and the team is available Monday to Friday (9 AM - 9 PM EST) and weekends (9 AM - 6 PM EST). The team representatives reply quickly, sometimes within two hours (depending on their workload).
Revive Superfoods is available via chat and email, and the team replies within a few minutes (maximum a couple of hours) if it’s during working hours. Customer service is active Monday to Friday from 9 AM - 9 PM EST. Also, the brand is active on social media.
Winner: Revive Superfoods
Both brands set different prices for each meal category, but Revive Superfoods starts at a more affordable price point. For instance, with Revive Superfoods, the smoothies, acai bowls, oats, soups, and bites cost USD 6.99 (CAD 7.99) per item. The meals are USD 8.49 (CAD 9.49) per item, and the frozen desserts are USD 7.99 (CAD 8.99) per item.
In comparison, Splendid Spoon charges $9.99 for smoothies, $12.49 for soups and grain bowls, and $13.49 for noodle bowls. So, to get the best price per food item, you’ll have to choose one of the larger plans, like the Breakfast + Lunch (14 items – seven smoothies and seven veggie-filled bowls) which is $10.52/item or the Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner meal plan (21 items – seven smoothies, seven soups and grain bowls, seven noodles), which is $10.79/item.
Compared to Revive Superfoods’ smallest box, where you can add nine items at $6.99 each, the price difference is quite big. But, even if you choose the more expensive items, the price won’t go over $8.49/item.
I’d always recommend you check for ew customer discount codes, as these can save you money on your first order. For example, Splendid Spoon currently has this offer: Get $100 off your first 4 boxes of plant-based meals!.
You also need to consider shipping. Splendid Spoon ships orders that include 10+ meals for free and charges $12.99 for smaller orders. Revive Superfoods charges for each order, and the fee starts at $9.99. The cost may increase, depending on your location or the courier company, but it won’t be by much.

Even though Splendid Spoon is the pricier option, the sheer menu choice and easy prep tip the balance in its favor. The difference in menu size is easy to spot if you check out the soups, bowls, and smoothies sections on Splendid Spoon vs. the similar sections for Revive Superfoods.
However, if Revive Superfoods continues to grow and adds more items to the menu, there’s a good chance the situation will change. Until then, both companies have a great plant-based offer, which makes it easier for those of us looking to improve our eating habits.
Lastly, if you don’t find either of these brands to your taste, check out our list of best meal delivery services. You won’t be disappointed!
You may lose some weight because Splendid Spoon promotes healthy eating habits. However, the menu is not specifically designed for weight loss and caters to several different dietary preferences, such as gluten-free, high-protein, and vegetarian (among others).
But, even though the meals are not designed for weight loss, many are low in calories and can help you reach a healthier weight.
Yes, the meals and smoothies from Splendid Spoon are nutritious and filling. Because this is a plant-based menu, many new users fear the meals won’t be enough to help them feel satisfied. But each meal is designed to include the right amount of nutrients so you’ll get the energy you need to enjoy your day.
However, if you’re not used to consuming smoothies in the morning, you may have an adjustment period where you’ll fight a craving or two.
If you’re looking for the most affordable service, Revive Superfoods is the best option. However, if you want meal variety and options other than smoothies, Splendid Spoon comes out on top. Both services have strong points, so you first have to consider your needs and preferences.
