Meals at Green Chef officially start from $11.99 a serving (on the Balanced Living and Plant-Powered plans, with an option for 2 or 4 servings per 2-3 weekly recipes) and go up to $12.99 a serving for the Keto and Paleo plans. Plus, there’s a flat fee of $8.99 for delivery.
The prices do get cheaper once the first-order discounts are added, but these portion prices are definitely at the more expensive end of the spectrum. Green Chef offers all-organic ingredients, so that explains the higher price.
On the other hand, the sustainability and quality of the ingredients make these meal kits well worth it.
You have the option of four meal plans to choose from:
It's super rare to see keto and paleo-specific plans with meal delivery services, so I was pleasantly surprised. Each plan offers a range of six to eight recipes per week.
Green Chef focuses on providing healthy and nutritious meals. While other meal delivery services have a lot of heavy-looking pasta and other carb-heavy dishes, Green Chef doubles down on lean meats and proteins, whole grains, and veggies. This would be the perfect service if you're on a healthy-eating diet, or you're watching your cholesterol or fat intake.
I chose to try out:
Creamy Stuffed Chicken
Steak and Farro Salad
Italian Shrimp with Pesto
Each meal takes around 30 minutes or under to prepare.
Green Chef offers deliveries from Monday to Saturday, with different days available depending on where you live.
Deliveries arrive between 8 am and 9 pm, but unlike HelloFresh or Blue Apron, Green Chef doesn't come with a trackable app link (I’m not sure this is strictly necessary, it’s just a useful bonus).
Green Chef might be on the pricier end of the meal delivery services I’ve reviewed, but it was one of the healthiest and easiest to cook. Considering that you’d have to drag yourself to local farms and health-food stores for the same quality ingredients – not to mention scouring endless health blogs for recipes this delicious – you can’t ask for an easier way to eat well while minimizing your impact on the environment.
It’s a win-win!
