Could you share the story behind the founding of TREPSI and the vision and mission that drive your commitment to reinventing the way nutritionists and people relate?

TREPSI was born from my bad experience of going to the nutritionist since I was a child. I wanted to be a professional soccer player and I was always very skinny; I was tired of being picked on at school and by teammates about my weight. I went to several nutritionists over time and always found myself with a piece of paper that lasted a week in the fridge and I never saw it again, I still didn't have a better diet and I realized that with any specialist it was the same experience.

Seven years ago, since I finished my university career, I have had the mission, the purpose of democratizing nutrition. I am convinced that having a better diet is the foundation of a good quality of life and that facilitating the relationship with the professional is the key because it is above all an educational process. TREPSI's mission is to facilitate the work of the specialist and the relationship with the patient so that going to the nutritionist becomes easy, simple and affordable.

TREPSI seems to be at the forefront of innovation in nutrition. How do you see technology playing a role in transforming the way people approach and engage with their nutrition, and how has TREPSI contributed to this change?

I am totally convinced that technology and now artificial intelligence will play a fundamental role in the life of the human being. In the case of nutrition and health, TREPSI has the flag of putting technology at the service of the specialist, but making sure that it remains the protagonist and that the patient (user) feels that there is still human contact, where technology has the function of improving the experience and enhancing the results.

We all want to eat better, but nobody really teaches us and we are surrounded by misinformation. In Colombia alone, 65% of the population is overweight or obese. Only 5 out of 100 people go to the nutritionist on a recurrent basis, the reason is that they feel that it will not solve the problem, because they are very expensive and the tools they use are obsolete. 

TREPSI is a platform that works on one hand as a Saas for the specialist, which thanks to our AI models we managed to optimize 10X the service time of nutritionists making them accessible to 95% of people who find them expensive and difficult to reach. On the other hand, we are an APP for the patient where the person, in minutes can get a 100% personal program, made by experts, where he/she learns what to eat, when to eat and in what quantities according to his/her objective: to lose weight, gain muscle or treat chronic diseases such as diabetes. We have been able to improve adherence to the program up to 70%. Today, after one year we have more than 70 specialists and more than 13,000 active patients.


Entrepreneurship often comes with challenges. Can you tell us about a significant challenge you faced while building TREPSI, and how you and your team overcame it?

I think there are few things that can shape the spirit more than entrepreneurship or creating something from scratch. Being able to live with impressive levels of uncertainty for such a long time is mission impossible for the vast majority. As I told you, I have been pursuing this mission for years, I have made 3 pivots and almost started over 3 times because in the end it is about validating hypotheses indefinitely until I can find a product that really delivers value and solves a problem, in a market that is also willing to adapt this solution. I have had the additional challenge of being a “solopreneur”, which makes everything much more difficult, but I also believe that a bad partnership is even worse. I am grateful to God for having met incredible people that are part of my team and that we have been working together for a long time, so I almost consider them as my co-founders.

The claim that the best nutritionists are at TREPSI is quite bold. How do you attract and collaborate with top-tier nutritionists, and what sets TREPSI apart in terms of the expertise it offers?

Yes, we have taken on the task of researching and bringing to the platform the best nutritionists we have found in the country, but also who have been actively seeking to include technology to improve their experience with their patients. Today we have a waiting list of over 200 nutritionists. We make it a task to meet them and explain the product to them before they decide to subscribe. We know it may not be scalable, but at this stage we want to make sure we are generating value on both sides. Also, because nutritionists are our first source of feedback to keep improving the product, so we need them to be very involved and love TREPSI.  Thanks to this, we know that we have created something that once a nutritionist meets us, they feel that we have read their mind. I think we have developed a technology that has improved the day-to-day life of the specialist 10x. 

It is also worth mentioning that with the entry of BODYTECH (the main chain of gyms in the country and one of the main in the region) as investors and main allies to further develop our technology, it gives us a new validation and generates confidence in the specialist and patient.


With the increasing use of technology in nutrition, how does TREPSI address concerns about data privacy and security, ensuring that clients feel confident in sharing personal health information for a more tailored nutritional experience?

We know that trust in the care of the information is fundamental. All information provided by the patient is confidential and can only be seen by the specialist and the individual. This information is in the cloud and protected to the highest standards. We make sure that it remains protected. Finally, I could tell you that our data treatment policy also has the best standards, so the patient knows that all personal information provided will only be used by their specialist and the platform to give them the best possible program and experience.
