Update August 2023: Unfortunately, Cali Raw is closed for business and is no longer accepting new orders. For an alternative, I recommend We Feed Raw. It offers premium raw dog food customized to your pup’s needs. Plus, you can save money with this special discount: Get 40% Off + Free Shipping
Picking the right raw dog food delivery can be tough. You need to think about if the food is healthy, where it comes from, if it will be fresh when it arrives, and if you can afford it. It's important to choose a service that fits your pet's needs and your lifestyle. Get the full scoop in this Cali Raw review to learn everything there is to know.
I've done a lot of research, carefully checked, and deeply studied Cali Raw. I wanted to find out if it's a good service worth considering for raw dog food delivery. I looked at all the information to see if it will deliver food that works for both you and your canine companion. Things I considered were meal options, pricing, ingredient quality, nutrition, and more.
Cali Raw is a great option to consider for your dog's raw food needs. It offers 5 different meal options, along with tasty treats like jerky made from turkey, venison lung, and beef heart. With a variety of choices, I believe you can find what suits your dog's preferences when it comes to raw food.
Pros | Cons |
Raw food diet for all life stages | No fresh or dry food available |
USDA-certified humanely raised animals | Very limited selection of meals |
100% human-grade ingredients | No personalization questionnaire |
There are 3 adult meals and 2 puppy meals. Adult meals include Beef, Turkey, and Chicken, and puppy meals include Chicken & Beef and Turkey & Lamb. All of the meals are raw, as you may expect.
Each meal contains a minimum crude protein level of 13% to 15%, which is respectable. Even when compared with other top competitors, like We Feed Raw, that number still holds up.
Cali Raw does have a customization questionnaire, but it’s very bare-bones. It asks you about your dog’s name, age, and weight. Thanks to its customization quiz, We Feed Raw may be a better option – learn more about that in our official review.
You can also choose from various treats like Venison Jerky, Lamb Lung, Beef Heart, and more. However, what I found is that only 2 of the treats let me click on them. The others led me to a page that said “page not found”. This could be a supply issue or perhaps these are just sold out at the moment.
Here’s a breakdown of each meal.
Beef, beef heart, carrots, beef kidney, broccoli, kale, apple, beef spleen, sunflower oil, salmon oil, and bonemeal.
Turkey Neck, turkey, turkey heart, turkey gizzards, carrots, turkey liver, broccoli, squash, apple, and salmon oil.
Chicken neck, chicken, chicken gizzards, chicken heart, chicken liver, carrots, broccoli, kale, apple, and salmon oil.
Chicken neck, beef, chicken, green beans, beef liver, carrots, melon, broccoli, and salmon oil.
Turkey neck, lamb, turkey, green beans, lamb liver, pumpkin, melon, broccoli, and salmon oil.
Cali Raw provides a handful of quality meals that have clearly received a lot of care. All of the meals use USDA-certified humanely raised animals, and the meals are 100% human-grade. The company also boasts an SQF (Safe Quality Foods) certification. A USDA inspector also works on-site.
Compared to We Feed Raw, the meals have a higher minimum crude protein content. We Feed Raw’s meals contain roughly 13% to 13.9% crude protein at minimum, but Cali Raw’s meals go as high as 15%. That’s some of the highest minimum crude protein I’ve seen.
You’re getting all of your meals neatly organized inside an insulated delivery box. The box is corrugated and contains an ec-liner. Inside that, you’ll find dry ice, which promises to keep your food safe for 72 hours. Each meal is sealed in a vacuum-sealed package.
The food arrives frozen – and it’s recommended that you put the food in your freezer. You’ll need to keep 1 to 2 days’ worth of food ready in your fridge, and you’ll need to take it out of the freezer 1 to 2 days in advance to allow for thawing.
Store the food in your fridge for a maximum of 7 days once thawed.
All of the materials with the exception of the food packages are recyclable. This includes the dry ice packs, denim liner, and corrugated shipping box. Simply drain the ice packs before discarding or recycling them.
You don’t need to prepare the food in any way before serving. It’s not recommended to heat or otherwise cook your pup’s food before feeding. This is to maintain optimal nutrition levels.

You also save 5% off each order if you sign up for auto shipments. More on auto shipments below.
Every package is exactly 1 lb or 453.5 grams. This makes it easy to calculate your pup’s daily feeding requirements.
For example, a 10 lb dog will need 0.25 lbs of food per day. This equals 1 package every 4 days.
You need to order a minimum of 12 packages, up to a maximum of 36 per order. That means 12 to 36 lbs of food in a single order.
Shipping is available in all 48 contiguous states, with the exception of AK, HI, and Puerto Rico. If you need to cancel your order after it’s been processed, there’s a 5% merchant fee. For orders canceled after it’s already been fulfilled, a 20% restocking fee applies.
Your pup’s food gets delivered 1 to 3 days after it’s dispatched from the warehouse. It’ll arrive via FedEx, OnTrac, or UPS. Orders are either 1-off or automatically renewed. You can sign up for auto-ship every 2, 4, or 8 weeks (biweekly, monthly, or bi-monthly).
Important: you’ll get a confirmation via email 1 week before your next auto shipment is dispatched. This is when you’ll have a small window of opportunity to cancel, modify, or outright skip your next shipment.

A live agent connected with me even though the company was technically closed for 2 days. That’s pretty impressive considering I contacted the live chat team during a busy long weekend in the US!
I wanted to know if shipping is available in AK, HI, or Puerto Rico – the agent confirmed that it’s not. Even though the company was closed, the agent was still helpful, friendly, and professional, though.
There’s also a very impressive FAQ section that answers more than 50 common questions.
You do get a refund policy, but it’s a bit ambiguous – so here’s what it states. You may be eligible for a product replacement, a full refund, or a partial refund if in the event your box was damaged during shipping. Returns aren’t accepted – and photos of the damaged item(s) may be required as well.
There are currently no active Cali Raw recalls.
Cali Raw vs. We Feed Raw: We Feed Raw has more meal options and a better personalization questionnaire. It takes more things into consideration about your dog. Examples include his or her breed, current body condition, activity level, food preferences, and whether he or she has any allergies.
Cali Raw vs. The Farmer’s Dog: Not everyone wants to feed their dog raw food. Enter The Farmer’s Dog, which is among the most trusted fresh dog food delivery services today. It also provides you with an extensive quiz to make sure your pup is getting a highly personalized diet regimen.
If you want premium dog food with high levels of crude protein, then yes, Cali Raw is worth it. Each meal contains at least 13% crude protein, which is some of the highest in the industry. Each meal is also packed with superfood ingredients like carrots, broccoli, kale, apples, and more.
The food also meets or exceeds AAFCO guidelines for all life stages. And, the food is considered B.A.R.F. (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food). A USDA associate also works on-site to help ensure quality standards are always maintained.
You can choose from 3 adult dog foods, 2 puppy foods, and several jerky-style treats. This isn’t the most extensive selection out there, but at least the quality makes up for that. Overall, I believe there are better services like We Feed Raw, as it has more selection and a better personalization questionnaire.
If you’re worried about raw food, it’s always best to consult with your vet. Only they can provide you with information specific to your pup. If he or she deems raw food to be a good choice for your dog, you can choose from Cali Raw’s 5 dog food choices for adults or puppies.
One pro is that it has tons of protein, and a con is that it contains virtually no carbs. Carbohydrates are equally important for many dog breeds. However, not all dog breeds require many carbs in their diet. For pups who benefit from a high-protein diet, Cali Raw's food contains some of the highest minimum crude protein levels of any dog food out there.
