You can mix and match meats from different categories during purchase. Select the desired products, and they’ll be added to the shopping cart which you’ll find in the upper right corner of the page. If you're looking for meals for an upcoming holiday, select the corresponding holiday option (Easter, for example) to see recommendations for the occasion.

Customization

You can buy most Omaha Steaks products as they are. Also, you can customize the selected products featuring the Build Custom Package button. In that case, you can personalize your meats by choosing from various selections. Omaha Steaks shopping and personalization options

For example, opt for Duroc Boneless Country Ham or New Zealand Boneless Leg of Lamb, among other alternatives, if you select the Create Your Own Easter Dinner option. Once you make the 1st choice, scroll down the side window to personalize other ingredients. Omaha Steaks meal personalization interface

Note that you can’t customize dishes to avoid allergens. If you check out Meals, Sides & Desserts, for instance, you can see common allergens, such as soy, listed in the meal’s Nutrition section. Nutrition Factos from an Omaha Steaks meal

Unboxing

Omaha Steaks uses heavy-duty packaging made of styrofoam to ship orders. You'll find dry ice maintaining a low temperature and keeping your products frozen inside the box. A list of the meats and other products you've purchased will also be in the box so you won’t be left guessing what’s what.

Items you purchased from Omaha Steaks are individually boxed in a cardboard package. To open the cardboard boxes, simply press the tab, and the lid will come off easily. Inside, you'll find your products packed in plastic bags. Styrodur and plastic bags keep your products frozen and prevent optional spills, but a big downside of these materials are that they aren’t eco-friendly.

Store your Omaha Steaks recipes in the freezer before thawing them for preparation. The service advises keeping your freezer at the lowest temperature possible and storing food in its original package, if applicable. Meat can last up to 3 months in the freezer, but you must thaw it in the fridge before preparing it. Depending on the product, thawing could take anywhere from 4 to 24 hours.

Call Omaha Steaks’ toll-free recycle hotline for info at 1-800-228-9872 about recycling. Agents will give you information about the nearest recycling facilities to you.

Cooking With Omaha Steaks

Omaha Steaks meats are easy and quick to cook, with many items taking as little as 10 minutes to serve. Note, though, that cooking times vary depending on the meat type and its thickness. In light of that, some dishes make require up to 60 minutes preparation.

Preheat the grill to high temperature when gas grilling Omaha Steaks meats. Reduce the heat to medium before placing the meat on the grill. If using a charcoal grill, sear the meat over red hot coals to develop a nice crust. Afterward, move it to a cooler part of the grill to finish cooking over indirect heat.

To sear roast meat, start by preheating your oven to 300F. Then, heat a small amount of oil in a large ovenproof pan over high heat. When the pan is hot, add the meat and sear it for 2-3 minutes until it brows well. Flip the meat over and then place the pan in the preheated oven to finish cooking.

Shipping & Delivery

You can purchase Omaha Steaks products from anywhere in the US. You can order the meat delivery service's food even if you live in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands. At this time, Omaha Steaks doesn’t deliver internationally. The company doesn’t specify what shipping times are. It only discloses that express shipping arrives in 2 or 3 days.

Omaha Steaks doesn’t deliver to P.O. Boxes or A.P.O. or F.P.O. addresses. However, you can use rural routes with complete addresses and telephone numbers to purchase the company's meals.

It's worth noting that Omaha Steaks provides free shipping on select products. It’s easy to find these items by looking for the Ships Free label at the top of the product while browsing the menu. Sign up on the Omaha Steaks website via a desktop computer, laptop, or mobile. Consider downloading the mobile app available on Google Play and the App Store for extra convenience. To register an account, do the following:

  1. Select the Sign In button; if you're using a smartphone, only the icon without the text may appear.

The 1st step of opening an Omaha Steaks account

  1. Hit the Create Account button; once you do, the side window will appear.

The Omaha Steaks' Create Your Account side window

  1. Enter your name and email address and choose and confirm your password.

  2. Select Create Account and that’s it.

Managing Your Account

You'll access the Membership Account page when you sign up. There, you can access various account management features. For example, you can review your past orders, update your address book, and more. I found the Membership Account page user-friendly and intuitive, and I was able to quickly and easily find the information I need. Omaha Steaks Membership Account page

I appreciate the feature allowing me to save my favorite products for future reference. The feature let me to state how I cook which in turn helped me personalize my shopping experience which is also great. Reviewing past and current orders and updating contacts and addresses is another great feature.

But Steaklovers Rewards is the most rewarding membership feature for me. The membership program has 3 plans: Member, Premium, and Gold. Both the Member and Premium plans are free to join, while the Gold plan requires an annual membership fee.

The Gold plan offers the most rewards, including earning more points per dollar spent. It also grants free shipments and gifts for purchases over $79.99. So, this plan can offer you significant savings and rewards if you're a frequent Omaha Steaks shopper.

Customer Service

I found Omaha Steaks' customer service difficult to find and quite inefficient. It took me some time and effort to locate Omaha Steaks' customer service and FAQ section as neither is prominently displayed on the website. I found Help Center at the bottom of the home page. Many other meal delivery services have customer support or FAQ sections clearly marked on their websites, even in the header.

I tried to find out the delivery time for Omaha Steaks shipments to Hawaii. Upon selecting Help Center, the system presented me with the frequently asked questions first. Since I couldn't find the answer, I had to click on the No, I need more info option in the Was this information helpful? box at the end of the FAQ section. The Contact Us button appeared only then. The end of Omaha Steaks FAQ section

I got a reply to my email quite quickly after I gave my personal information and asked my question. But the reply didn't answer my question and instead gave information on shipping fees to Hawaii. So, I think the service sent me a standard reply and that Omaha Steaks doesn't have dedicated customer service agents to answer specific questions. An automated response from Customer Support

I presumed that I would have to make a call to obtain the information since I couldn't locate a live chat option. Nevertheless, I was dissatisfied with the response from Omaha Steaks as it appeared as if they didn’t appreciate the effort I made in submitting my question.

The best way to cancel your membership is to call customer support since Omaha Steaks doesn’t have related information on its website.

How Omaha Steaks Compares to Other Meal Delivery Services

  • Omaha Steaks vs. Green Chef: Green Chef delivers fresh meals while Omaha Steaks ships frozen products. Plus, Green Chef, a certified-organic company, has various meal plans, including a Protein Packed option that’ll keep you full. Plus, Green Chef’s meal kits can feed you and your family without breaking the bank. Another crucial difference is that Green Chef uses eco-friendly packaging.
  • Omaha Steaks vs. Blue Apron: Omaha Steaks doesn't offer personalization options for specific diets, such as vegetarian or low-calorie, unlike Blue Apron. You can also swap ingredients in various Blue Apron dishes to meet individual dietary needs. Blue Apron has excellent customer service, whereas Omaha Steaks' customer service is hard to find and not very efficient, in my experience.
  • Omaha Steaks vs. Crowd Cow: Both meat delivery services have a wide range of products. But, unlike Omaha Steaks, Crowd Cow sources meat from local and foreign suppliers. Thus, you can try products you usually don’t have an opportunity to taste with the latter. Plus, Crowd Cow’s packaging is eco-friendly, and the service provides you with several options to redeem reward points.

The Bottom Line: Is Omaha Steaks Worth It?

Omaha Steaks can be a good option for meat lovers seeking various meat products. The company provides free shipping for many of its items. Plus, the meat delivery service ships nationwide, including Alaska, Hawaii, and other non-mainland destinations.

However, Omaha Steaks isn't clear about how it sources meat. You can also find it challenging to locate Omaha Steaks' customer service, which can be impersonal. Moreover, the meal delivery service doesn't offer personalized meal plans for specific diets. If you're after these features, Green Chef may be a better option. Moreover, the packaging isn't eco-friendly, which may be a drawback for environmentally-conscious consumers.

Lastly, Omaha Steaks ships frozen meals. If you prefer fresh food, check out the top fresh meal delivery services.

FAQ

Is it worth buying from Omaha Steaks?

If you're a meat lover, Omaha Steaks should be worth a try. The company offers a wide range of meat products it delivers nationwide. But if knowing the origin of your meat is important to you, it may be best to consider other options.

Is Omaha Steaks good quality?

The quality of Omaha Steaks' meat products is inconclusive. The company has been in business for over 100 years, which should speak loudly about the quality of its meats. However, its meat grading and sourcing aren’t transparent. And this lack of transparency raises some concerns among consumers about the quality of their meat.

Are Omaha Steaks overpriced?

Omaha Steaks tends to be more expensive than many other online meat retailers. Check Porter Road or Crowd Cow, among other services, if you're on a budget.
