How to Cancel Blue Apron Subscriptions (+3 Alternatives) 2021

If your Blue Apron subscription isn’t quite what you were hoping it would be, there’s no need to feel blue about it! It can take time to find the right meal delivery service for your needs.

If you’d prefer a more extensive recipe selection, for example, HelloFresh might be more suitable for you. Then there’s Home Chef , which offers top-notch customization that most other meal kit delivery services can’t beat. Or if you’re someone who has specific dietary requirements, why not try Sunbasket?

Regardless of the reasons behind your Blue Apron cancellation, we’re here to help make ending your subscription as stress-free as possible.

How to Cancel Your Blue Apron Orders – A Quick Guide

The first thing you need to know is that Blue Apron doesn’t want you to leave. If it did, there would be a handy little “Cancel” button to click and be on your way. However, all you can do from your main account page is skip upcoming orders. If you want to outright end your subscription, Blue Apron tells you to email its Customer Experience team for cancellation instructions.

It’s frustrating to see Blue Apron overcomplicate this process, but don’t worry: we’ve got a shortcut for stress-free cancellation. Simply follow this link (blueapron.com/cancel_subscription) if you want to end your Blue Apron subscription without speaking to customer service. Remember though, if you have any orders shown as Order Processed or Shipped on your Upcoming page, they’ve already been processed and can’t be canceled.

Here’s what you need to do to cancel your account:

  1. Follow the link This link (blueapron.com/cancel_subscription) takes you to a Manage Your Account page that you can’t access elsewhere.

  1. Select Cancel Your AccountSimply click the link.

  1. Confirm cancellation – You’ll have the opportunity to fill out a survey if you want. After that, scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Account to confirm your cancellation.

When you need to make any changes, Blue Apron makes this a little difficult to do. Here’s the explanation: “Your cutoff for making changes to an upcoming scheduled delivery is the “Changeable before” date and time reflected on both your Upcoming page and Account Settings.”

To find your current “Changeable before” date, you have to go to Plan Settings within your Account Settings. A bit complicated, but at least Blue Apron gives this visual guide:

If that seems too confusing and you’re worried you won’t remember to cancel in time, Blue Apron also offers an app for both iOS and Android that will send push notifications to remind you about your next scheduled delivery. Before the order is finalized, you’ll get a reminder allowing you to make any changes.

So You Canceled Your Subscription – What Now?

If you’re canceling your Blue Apron subscription but aren’t ready to dive back into full-on kitchen duties, the great news is there are so many other tasty options out there. Since it’s pretty easy to cancel a subscription for almost any meal kit delivery service, there’s no reason not to try out a whole bunch until you find the perfect one for you.

So, if you’re looking for Blue Apron alternatives, here are three other companies that might be more suited to your needs.

Best Blue Apron Alternatives

1. HelloFresh – Best For a Variety of Recipes

HelloFresh offers six plans to suit different lifestyles and a broad range of recipes every single week. Choose from Meat & Veggies , Veggie , Family Friendly , Calorie Smart , Pescatarian , and Quick & Easy .

If you want to learn more about what each plan offers, check out this full-length HelloFresh review and discover which option might work best for you.

The menu offers around 23 to 25 (and sometimes more!) new recipes each week, with everything from Lightning Prep and One Pan dishes to Takeout Favorites. So whether you’re a total novice or a culinary master, you’re sure to find meals that suit your skills and schedule.
And much like Blue Apron, you’ll also find nothing less than the freshest, high-quality ingredients that have been responsibly sourced from local producers where possible, all at a similar price point.

2. Home Chef – Best for Customization

Home Chef does things a little differently from other meal kit services and doesn’t offer specific dietary plans. Instead, what it gives is the option to customize your meals, allowing you to swap, upgrade, or double-up on protein.

There’s so much to say about Home Chef, we wrote an in-depth review .

Like Blue Apron, its menu is a mix of classic home-cooked favorites and global-inspired dishes. You can filter for Vegetarian meals, as well as Calorie- and Carb-Conscious recipes, but what we love most is the ability to mix and match its standard meal kits with 15-Minute Meal Kits and Oven-Ready dishes, so there’s always something to suit your needs.

Since you aren’t restricted to a specific plan, you’re also not limited to a set number of diners or portions, which is excellent for anyone who wants flexibility. But that does mean it’s not always clear how much your meals will cost, especially if you add on some of the upgrades. If you want to keep things to a budget, though, you can.

3. Sunbasket – Best for Specialized Meal Plans

There’s so much to choose from at Sunbasket There are 10 different plans available, including Pescatarian, Mediterranean, and Diabetes-Friendly (which Blue Apron also has), as well as a whopping average of 40 dishes on the menu each week.

There isn’t enough space to go into every one of Sunbasket’s 10 plans here, but you can see a rundown of them all in our dedicated review
And if that wasn’t enough to tempt you, you can also mix and match your Sunbasket meal kits with its zero-prep Fresh & Ready meals, which means you could have dinner on the table in as little as six minutes

And if you were a fan of Blue Apron’s add-ons, you’ll love the online marketplace Sunbasket has to offer, with everything from easy breakfast and lunch additions to healthy snacks, specialty meats, fresh pasta, and more.

Bottom Line

Blue Apron has a great range of delicious, chef-designed recipes that are easy to follow. It uses responsibly sourced ingredients and offers decent-sized portions – it’s definitely a meal kit delivery service to try out.

However, if you decide Blue Apron isn’t for you, canceling your subscription is pretty straightforward once you know what you’re doing, and there are some great alternatives out there that might be a better fit for you.
