Blue Apron makes it really easy to pause your future orders in the account settings, without having to call customer support. That’s even the case if you purchased your meal box using Blue Apron’s special discount. |
If your Blue Apron subscription isn’t quite what you were hoping it would be, there’s no need to feel blue about it! It can take time to find the right meal delivery service for your needs.
Perhaps you want to order more recipes than the four Blue Apron offers, so HelloFresh’s six recipes per week will work better for your family.
Regardless of the reasons behind your Blue Apron cancellation, I’m here to help make ending your subscription as stress-free as possible.
Jump to see Blue Apron alternatives.
Sign in – Copy/paste this link (blueapron.com/cancel_subscription) into your search bar and sign in to access this Manage Your Account page on Blue Apron’s site.
Click the cancel option – Select Cancel Your Account.
Confirm – Fill out the survey and select Cancel Account to confirm.
The first thing you need to know is that Blue Apron doesn’t want you to leave. If it did, there would be a handy little “Cancel” button to click and help you on your way.
It’s frustrating to see Blue Apron overcomplicate this process, but don’t worry – I’ve got a shortcut for stress-free cancellation:
Follow the link – This link (blueapron.com/cancel_subscription) takes you to a Manage Your Account page that you can’t access elsewhere. Finding this is the hardest part of the process!
Select Cancel Your Account – Simply click the link.
Confirm cancellation – You’ll have the opportunity to fill out a survey if you want. After that, scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Account to confirm your cancellation.
When you need to make changes, Blue Apron makes this difficult too. The website says: “Your cutoff for making changes to an upcoming scheduled delivery is the “Changeable before” date and time reflected on both your Upcoming page and Account Settings.”
To find your current “Changeable before” date, you have to go to Plan Settings within your Account Settings. A bit complicated, but at least Blue Apron gives this visual guide:
If you’re worried you won’t remember to cancel in time, Blue Apron offers an app for both iOS and Android that will send push notifications to remind you about your next scheduled delivery. Before the order is finalized, you’ll get a reminder allowing you to make any changes.
If you liked Blue Apron but just got a bit bored, HelloFresh is a great similar alternative. Much like Blue Apron, you’ll also find nothing less than the freshest, high-quality ingredients that have been responsibly sourced from local producers, all at a similar price point.
HelloFresh offers more plans to suit different lifestyles, each with a broad range of recipes every single week. Choose from Meat & Veggies, Veggie, Family Friendly, Fit & Wholesome, Pescatarian, and Quick & Easy and mix and match recipes across different plans if you like.
If you want to learn more about what each plan offers, check out our full-length HelloFresh review and discover which option might work best for you.
The menu offers around 25 (and sometimes more!) new recipes each week, with everything from Easy Prep and One-Pan dishes to Takeout Favorites. If you found Blue Apron’s recipes a bit too complicated, HelloFresh’s tried-and-tested dishes might work better for you, plus you can order up to six meals every week compared to Blue Apron’s four.
Blue Apron offers the occasional ingredient swap, but Home Chef gives you the option to customize most meals, allowing you to swap, upgrade, or double-up on protein. You can easily filter for vegetarian meals, as well as calorie- and carb-conscious choices.
What I love most is the ability to mix and match standard meal kits with speedy 15-Minute Meal Kits and low prep Oven-Ready dishes. Our in-depth review will tell you much more about the meal types available at Home Chef.
Since you aren’t restricted to a specific plan, you’re also not limited to a set number of diners or portions. But that does mean it’s not always clear how much your meals will cost, especially if you add some of the upgrades. If you want to keep to a budget, though, you can – its meals start at just $5.74 per serving.
Sunbasket caters to many more diets than Blue Apron, so if you have intolerances or dietary restrictions – it could be a better service for you.
Sunbasket offers 10 different plans – including Pescatarian, Mediterranean, Paleo, Gluten-Free, and Diabetes-Friendly – as well as a whopping average of 40 dishes on the menu each week. You can see examples of what’s on the menu in our dedicated Sunbasket review.
If the broad menu selection isn’t enough to tempt you, you can also mix and match your meal kits with zero-prep Fresh & Ready meals, which means on busy nights, you can have dinner on the table in as little as six minutes.
Plus, if you were a fan of Blue Apron’s add-ons, you’ll love the online marketplace Sunbasket has to offer, with everything from easy breakfast and lunch options to healthy snacks, specialty meats, fresh pasta, and more.
Blue Apron has a great range of delicious, chef-designed recipes that are easy to follow. It uses responsibly sourced ingredients and offers decent-sized portions – it’s definitely a meal kit delivery service to try out.
However, if you decide Blue Apron isn’t for you, canceling your subscription is pretty straightforward once you know what you’re doing, and there are some great alternatives out there that might be a better fit for you.
