Buoy 2023: The All-Natural And Versatile Electrolyte Supplement

Hydration is important, especially on hot summer days or during a workout. Yet, with our busy day-to-day routines, it can be all too easy to forget to sip water – leading to fatigue, brain fog, headaches, and worse.

Buoy tries to change that with a simple supplement that can be squeezed into everything: water, coffee, drinks, and even soup! We talked with Daniel Schindler, co-founder and CEO of Buoy, to find out more about the product.

Tell us a bit more about your company…

Buoy is a hydration and wellness supplement that you can add to every type of drink. Our mission is to make hydrating easier and more convenient. Every other product like this that you might see in the market is usually meant for water only, and for when you’re exercising.

We wanted to give people who are chronically dehydrated (not getting enough hydration on a daily basis) an extra boost throughout the day: a squeeze in their coffee in the morning, in their afternoon tea, and even in their beer at night. Buoy is easy to carry around so you can use it whenever you need it.

How did you come up with the idea?

All three founders of the company realized around five years ago that we were dehydrated and not getting enough electrolytes. We looked at both older and newer hydration products and noticed they were only meant for use while exercising and contained unnecessary ingredients like sugar and artificial sweeteners.

We realized there was a need for a “cleaner” solution. We wanted to create something that could be put into drinks other than water, too, so people could hydrate efficiently while out drinking in a bar, while working out with a protein shake, or even just after waking up.

Often people don’t understand how serious dehydration can be. Do you still feel the need to explain why the product is important?

Yes, to some extent. But people are becoming more aware of the fact that they are dehydrated. It’s been the most underrated aspect of health for as long as we can remember. Focusing on food is important, but it’s equally important to make sure we’re hydrated since our bodies are made up of over 70% water. People are starting to learn more about it and realizing they need to take steps to improve it.

Who are your customers?

Mainly health-conscious people of all ages who don’t want extra grams of sugar or artificial sweeteners in their drinks. People with chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and PoTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) also love Buoy because it’s the cleanest hydration solution.

Does your product change the flavor of the drink?

It’s flavorless in everything but water. If you add it to water, you’ll notice a slight hint of Blood Orange flavor.

Can you really add it to anything?

We’ve seen some funny ones, including people adding it to soup! It seems obscure but definitely a great idea, especially if someone is sick – it’s a great way to ensure they’re getting the electrolytes they need. We’ve also seen people put it in milk and yogurt, which is interesting to us. You can add it to anything!

Where can people buy Buoy products?

We currently sell on Amazon, through our website, and nationwide in CVS pharmacies. We soon hope to be in a lot more stores across the US.

Finally, tell us more about the Anti-Yellow Pee Club!

People often ask us how they’re supposed to know Buoy is working. Hydration has subtle physical benefits initially, unless you are very dehydrated and feel it. The best way to know Buoy is working is to track the color of your pee!

A lot of people have yellow or dark yellow pee, which typically signifies they are dehydrated. So we came up with the Anti-Yellow Pee Club as a fun way to help people understand how they can track their hydration and see how effective Buoy really is.
