How to Cancel Dinnerly Subscription in 2024

Dinnerly makes it really easy to pause your future orders in your account settings without having to call customer support. That’s even the case if you purchased your meal box using Dinnerly’s special discount.

Dinnerly is 1 of the most affordable meal kit delivery services on the market. Plus, it has an extensive menu and uses high-quality ingredients. So why would anyone want to cancel such an amazing subscription?

It all depends on your preferences and needs, such as if you’re on a specific diet. Dinnerly’s menu is designed for a general palate, and most of its recipes are quite simple (6 ingredients or fewer).

The good news is that there are other services out there that offer more diversity and better recipes. I think HelloFresh is a great alternative because it offers a good selection of affordable and tasty dishes.

If the time has come to say goodbye to Dinnerly (even just temporarily), I’ll show you the steps to take. I also have a couple of alternatives (besides HelloFresh) to show you what else you could be trying.

Canceling your Dinnerly subscription is fairly easy, but you need to keep in mind the cutoff date. Dinnerly provides information on how to manage your subscription

Best Alternatives

1. HelloFresh – Best for Menu Variety

HelloFresh's Street Cart–Style Turkey Bowls

If you found Dinnerly a little basic, HelloFresh might be just the alternative to add a little fun and excitement to your life. Its menu is family-friendly and extensive enough (100+ recipes and market items each week) to satisfy everyone’s dietary needs.

What’s on the Menu?

HelloFresh’s menu is varied and brings together some of the most common international influences. So, besides American-based recipes (which make up half of the menu), HelloFresh also brings you the exotic flavors of Asian, Mediterranean, and Mexican cuisines. Check my colleague’s full-length review for more on HelloFresh’s menu variety.

HelloFresh also offers 10-minute lunches and a couple of 15-minute meal kits, but there are no sweets on the core menu. If you want desserts, ready-made meals, smoothies, breakfast and lunch options, and more, you should check out HelloFresh’s Marketplace – it has a wide range of items and can satisfy any culinary desire.

What Makes It Special?

HelloFresh also has a well-developed customization feature called HelloCustom that lets you personalize your meals. You can swap, upgrade, or change the protein and side dishes in over 12 recipes each week, so it’s quite similar to Dinnerly’s customization feature.

The meal kits on HelloFresh’s menu have different prep times, so they can accommodate different lifestyles. When you don’t have time for complex meals and just want a healthy and quick dinner, you’ll find over 20 meal kits marked as Easy Prep or Quick that need less than 30 minutes.

Is It Good Value?

HelloFresh is focused on sustainability, reducing food waste, and packaging recyclability. Dinnerly is also working on being more eco-friendly, but its main focus is on keeping costs low. On the other hand, HelloFresh has its own sustainability team that works hard to keep the company up to date with the latest eco-friendly methods and technologies.

For the quality, I think HelloFresh’s meal kits are priced fairly, starting from $3.32 per serving. It also caters to more diets, preferences, and schedules than Dinnerly. HelloFresh runs plenty of promotions and discounts you can check out: 10 Free Meals Across 7 Boxes, 1st Box Ships Free + Free Dessert for Life.

2. EveryPlate – Best for Affordability

EveryPlate's Crispy Caesar Chicken

EveryPlate is definitely the next best thing to Dinnerly when it comes to affordable meal kits, especially since the offer includes simple recipes that are ready in 6 steps or fewer.

What’s on the Menu?

EveryPlate’s menu features a combination of family-friendly recipes and speedy meal kits. You’ll also find several diet-specific dishes. The offer changes each week, and the core menu includes 30 amazing recipes made with in-season ingredients.

While the ingredients and recipes are comparable, EveryPlate’s menus might be a better fit for you. According to my colleague’s in-depth review of EveryPlate, there’s a nice combination of American and international cuisines that keep things fresh and interesting week after week.

Each week, you get around 6 veggie-friendly meals, 10+ low-prep meals (under 30 minutes), and 2 Big-Batch Faves recipes. The Big-Batch Faves is a category unique to EveryPlate and features crowd-pleasing dishes that are double the usual serving size and can be cooked in a slow cooker or in the oven.

What Makes It Special?

EveryPlate also stands out from Dinnerly due to its Add-ons menu. Here, you can find breakfast and lunch recipes, cooked proteins, and lots of bundles that are quite advantageous in terms of value for money.

EveryPlate includes physical recipe cards in your delivery box. Dinnerly lets you decide between digital or paper recipe cards. I like that you have the option to opt out of physical copies so you can access recipes easily on your phone or tablet while cooking.

Is It Good Value?

EveryPlate’s prices are similar to Dinnerly’s, but there is a difference in plan sizes. EveryPlate’s maximum box size is 5 meals for 6 people per week, which makes it great for larger families. It’s definitely a good choice for both couples and families of all sizes, and shipping costs $10.99 per order.

Prices start at $1.49 per serving and go a bit higher for the 2-person plan. Still, there isn’t much difference between the 2 services.

3. Home Chef – Best for Gourmet Recipes

Home Chef's Japanese-Style Chicken Cutlet Katsu dish

Home Chef offers a diverse range of gourmet recipes. These are ideal for budding chefs seeking more than just basic meals. Unlike Dinnerly, which primarily targets simplicity and affordability, it provides a more sophisticated culinary experience.

What’s on the Menu?

There’s a wide array of meal choices. These range from traditional meal kits to Express meal kits, fully prepared meals, and additional extras. Our full review has all the details on menu options. This variety caters to different cooking times and skill levels, making it a versatile option.

Dietary options are diverse with Home Chef. These include low-calorie, low-carb, and vegetarian choices. This range is especially beneficial if Dinnerly's menu did not meet your specific dietary requirements. It caters to a variety of health and lifestyle needs, including keto-friendly and gluten-smart recipes, making it an inclusive option.

What Makes It Special?

The Customize It feature enhances meal personalization. It allows you to upgrade or switch proteins according to your preference. This flexibility is particularly appealing if you've enjoyed Dinnerly's customizable recipes. With Home Chef, you can tailor meals to your dietary needs or cravings, ensuring a satisfying dining experience.

While its recipes are more complex than Dinnerly's, they offer a bit more of a challenge. If you're looking to expand your cooking repertoire and enjoy the process of creating more elaborate dishes, Home Chef's recipes provide the perfect opportunity. They strike a balance between gourmet quality and home-cooking accessibility.

Is It Good Value?

Home Chef is family-friendly with kid-approved options. This makes it a good choice for households with children. If Dinnerly's menu didn't appeal to the younger members of your family, Home Chef's kid-friendly selections might be more successful.

Prices start at $7.99 per serving for larger orders. Plus canceling your subscription is straightforward via the Home Chef app. If you're concerned about affordability and ease of cancellation after leaving Dinnerly, Home Chef provides a cost-effective alternative with a user-friendly cancellation process.

Bonus: Blue Apron – Best for Affordable Gourmet Options

Blue Apron's Yuzu-Orange Glazed Salmon

Blue Apron is the perfect Dinnerly alternative if you’re looking for more sophisticated recipes. Despite having recipes like Spanish Shrimp and Rice and Garlic-Caper Chicken, Blue Apron is 1 of the more affordable meal kit services on the market.

What’s on the Menu?

At 80+ recipes per week, Blue Apron’s offer is a bit smaller than Dinnerly’s extensive menu. However, Blue Apron features more internationally inspired recipes, and there’s a well-stocked Add-ons section to help you spice things up.

Blue Apron’s Add-ons section includes cooked proteins, desserts, ready-made meals, and more. There’s also the Blue Apron Market section, where you can find meal kits, oven-ready meals, and Prepared & Ready fresh prepared meals.

Compared to Dinnerly’s simple meal kits (6 ingredients or fewer), Blue Apron’s meal kits are a bit more complex. But there’s something for everyone. Our reviewer enjoyed the fact that meals come with a wide range of prep times to choose from, from 15 minutes to over an hour.

What Makes It Special?

Blue Apron’s recipe cards (available in physical form in your box) are easy to follow. The instructions can help even a complete beginner make a restaurant-worthy meal. So if you want to learn how to cook, Blue Apron is a fantastic option.

Both Blue Apron and Dinnerly offer customization options, vegetarian meals, and Premium dishes. Dinnerly does have more vegetarian options, but Blue Apron’s recipes are more interesting. Plus, you can make several meat-containing meals vegetarian and expand your options.

Is It Good Value?

Blue Apron offers a competitive pricing structure, with meals starting as low as $3.74 per serving for its larger plan (5 meals for 4 people per week). This pricing is particularly notable given the quality of the meals provided.

While not as budget-centric as some competitors, Blue Apron maintains a strong balance between cost and culinary experience. Its meals don't compromise on the quality and diversity of ingredients, making it a valuable choice for those seeking taste and affordability.
