After seeing the tagline “like Netflix, but for wine,” I was intrigued. I love both of those things and the idea of putting them together was interesting. By asking a few questions, Winc develops a flavor profile and recommends tailored wines for you. You can choose to order these or shop for your own. Everything you review helps Winc find more options to suggest, just like Netflix.
Whether you’re looking to learn and explore wine as a newbie or you’re a long-time wine lover who just wants to try something new, this service is a winner. It’s easy to use and offers a great selection of affordable wines. The selection of premium wines is lacking, however, so if high-end vino is what you’re looking for – this may not be the best fit.
Winc’s monthly subscription includes four bottles per month. Before you order, you complete a six-question survey to determine your taste profile. For example, how you take your coffee, your feelings on citrus and mushrooms, and a few other simple preferences.
The questions require zero wine knowledge.
Once completed, you’ll get customized recommendations or you can choose your own bottles from the incredible selection offered. You can choose all red, all white, or a mix.
After your first box, you’ll be charged $59.95 each month (more on that below!) and given credits. You use those credits to purchase bottles of wine. The process is simple and you can skip any month without being charged. If you want to save up the credits to purchase one or two of its expensive, premium wines, you can do that.
I’ve already mentioned the $59.95 per month, but let’s dive in deeper. Winc offers a large variety of wines at different price points. Because it’s a direct distributor, the company saves costs by cutting out the middleman meaning all wines are discounted from the retail price.
There’s a selection of wines under $15, so using your credits without having an additional balance to pay is easy. The more expensive bottles are closer to $25, but you won’t find many above that price. You can see the retail price on each wine right next to the Winc member price, making it easy to calculate your savings.
Any order with four bottles or more includes free shipping, which is a great perk that many wine clubs do not offer. For orders of 12 bottles or more, Winc members get an additional 10% off the Winc price – perfect if you’re looking to stock up on wines you love.
Winc has produced hundreds of different wines since it started in 2012. It’s constantly rotating selections so there are always new wines to try. There are more than 40 options available and all of the bottles have customer ratings and information available to help you narrow down the choices.
Find bottles by browsing different categories like organic, vegan, low-sugar, and more; or sort by varietal (grape type), region, sweetness, and more.
I don’t know much about wine, so I just went with the recommendations I received.
Each box comes with a booklet of straightforward descriptions that don’t require sommelier experience to understand. You’ll also find tasting notes and suggested food pairings. And, on top of all of that, Winc offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you end up with something you don’t like, you’ll get your money back.
There’s one downside. If you absolutely fall in love with one of the wines, you may want to bulk order it. With the rotating selection and partnerships with smaller winemakers, you may not find a certain bottle again in the future. If you’re a creature of habit and like to stick to what you know, this might not be the best fit for you.
Winc features the top-rated wines right on its homepage, so you can quickly and easily see what’s been popular with other wine drinkers. It’s a bit different from the top-rated wines you'll find in magazines because these bottles don’t come with a $100 price tag and a description that requires a French-language degree.
Instead, each wine has a page that includes the customer rating, an easy-to-understand description, and scales to describe the fruit, earth, and wood tastes. That’s a ton of information to help you find a flavor you’ll love.
Let’s look at a couple of the current favorites available so you can see what information you’ll receive on each bottle offered.
The 2019 Pacificana Merlot from California is a newer offering that’s already getting great reviews from customers. It’s described as “tart, earthy, and classic” and is perfectly paired with comfort food like pizza, Mexican, and cheeses.
With a price tag of $12.99, it would be a great addition to your next pizza night at home. Plus, Pacificana is Winc’s flagship eco-friendly brand and gives 1% back to environmental causes.
This popular white wine from the South of France, L’Atelier du Sud Viognier, has been available for longer than the Pacificana and has been highly rated by 2,245 different customers. This Viognier is best served chilled with salads, fruit, or cheese.
The description says it’ll instantly transport you to sunnier climes – and that sounds absolutely glorious.
This “silky, red fruit” of the Folly of the Beast Pinot Noir option has also been enjoyed by thousands of customers and has “crowd-pleaser” right in the description. It pairs nicely with BBQ and veggies, so it would be perfect for a little backyard gathering.
Winc offers several gift card options that you can share. Choose between a one-, two-, or three-month membership. If you purchase more than one month, you’ll see a bit of a cost-saving as well.
It’s a great way to treat someone in your life to wine, without worrying about which kind they like. The gift card can be personalized and emailed directly to the recipient or you can print it out at home and deliver it in person. Once they receive their gift, they fill out the taste profile and select their own wines.
Here’s a quick summary of Winc’s pricing and who it’s best for:
From $13 per bottle
Anyone who enjoys wine and wants to try something new
If this is your first time getting an alcohol delivery, there is one very important thing to note. There’s a requirement that someone over the age of 21 must sign for the delivery. This isn’t just exclusive to Winc, it applies to any wine company that delivers.
If you’re not able to be home to receive your package, Winc recommends selecting a local FedEx office to receive or hold your package, because they can sign for it and hold it for up to five business days for you. All orders ship within two days and will provide updated tracking information once the box ships.
The packaging you’ll receive is sleek, simple, and sustainable. Winc has worked at reducing the amount of packaging while continuing to protect the wine inside. The box and the pulp trays inside are completely compostable and all other non-essential packaging has been eliminated. And the labels on the bottles are absolutely gorgeous, so they look good on the counter.
Delivery is available to most parts of the country. However, before you take the taste profile quiz, you’ll be asked to enter your zip code. With different restrictions across the United States on wine shipments, Winc wants to make sure you live somewhere that allows deliveries.
Here’s the current breakdown of states that cannot receive wine shipments:
Even if you don’t live in one of these states, still double-check your zip code as there are some areas in other states that have different regulations. Also, don’t be discouraged if you can’t sign up now, because these laws and regulations are constantly updating and Winc stays on top of it all.

Bright Cellars is another wine delivery service that starts with a quiz. The quiz includes more about lifestyle and not just taste, so you might get different suggestions (see our results in this in-depth Bright Cellars review). The price point is higher than Winc, but there’s a broader range of wine selections available.
Signing up to Naked Wines means you’re investing in independent winemakers and receiving the high-quality wine they produce. You can learn more about what kind of wineries you’ll be supporting in our expert Naked Wines review. The price is a little higher than Winc, but it’s great if you’re looking to support small operations.

It’s a great service. The selection is expansive and your recommendations keep getting better as you review more and more wines.
