How to Cancel Winc Subscription 2024 + Alternatives!

Winc makes it quite easy to pause your future orders in the account settings without having to call customer support. That’s even the case if you purchased your wine box using a promotional code.

Winc is a great wine delivery service that promotes a wide range of delicious labels. Plus, the company uses minimal-intervention winemaking methods and sustainable farming techniques.

But this doesn’t mean you have to stay subscribed forever. Maybe you want to try something new, or maybe your pantry is full for now. Regardless of your reason for quitting, you are free to do so whenever you want.

I’ll walk you through the cancelation process and recommend 3 great alternatives. For instance, Firstleaf is a great option for when you’re ready to get back in the game. Also, I’ll teach you how to pause Winc, just in case you’re not ready to say goodbye yet. Let’s get started!

How to Cancel Your Winc Orders – A Quick Guide

  1. Open the Winc website You don’t have to be logged into your account.

  2. Go to the Help section – Available in the site’s footer, and choose Contact Us. Select your preferred contact method from email, phone, or chat. Note that for chat you must be logged in.

  3. Submit your cancelation request – Tell the Winc support team what you want to do.

  4. Receive the confirmation – After asking for your reasons, Winc will cancel your account and send a confirmation email.

  5. Try a different vendor – I recommend giving Firstleaf a try.

Step-By-Step: How to Cancel Winc

Winc makes it easy for anyone to cancel their account. However, you must contact the support team - there’s no way around it. On the other hand, if you want to skip a month, you can do so from your online account.

If you’ve decided to end all business with Winc, here is a detailed how-to-cancel guide:

    1. Open the Winc website To submit a cancelation request, you don’t have to be logged into your account. But you do need to be on the Winc website to find the necessary contact channels.

      2. Go to the Help section – This section is available in the site’s footer and will take you to the company’s support database (which is also searchable). Choose Contact Us and click on How can I contact Winc for support?

      Winc' website's Help section

      3. Select your favorite contact method You can choose between email, phone, or chat. Winc’s representatives are available Monday to Sunday between 7 am and 4 pm PT. For email and phone, you don’t have to log in to your account, but the chat function is only available for logged-in members.

If you’re not sure you want to cancel, you can choose to skip a month. This can be done from your online account without contacting anyone. Just be sure to do so 48 hours before your monthly processing date.

        4. Submit your cancelation request – Once you’ve chosen your communication channel, tell Winc you want to cancel your account. At this step, you don’t have to provide a reason.

          5. Answer some questions – Winc will most likely want to know your reason for canceling, so you’ll most likely be contacted (if you didn’t submit your request by phone) by a representative. They will also try offering solutions that best fit your needs, but if you’re set on canceling, they won’t pester you for too long.

            6. Receive the confirmation – Winc will check your account, and if everything is in order, it will cancel your account. You should receive the confirmation via email.

            Best Alternatives

            1. Firstleaf – Best for Beginners

            Fistleaf's Thistle & Quail

Firstleaf is a great alternative to Winc due to its varied offer and focus on wine education. Both services will have you answer questions regarding your personal taste preferences, but Firstleaf goes a step further.

That’s because Firstleaf adds beautifully designed pairing cards for each bottle of wine. Therefore, if you don’t know much about wine (and very few of us do), it’s easy to learn. The cards provide information on the origin, flavor, and best food pairings. If you want to go more in-depth, on the Firstleaf website, you can find a section called Wine School.

The Firstleaf offer includes various reds and whites from different corners of the world. There is also a Fine Wines selection that features exclusive labels, such as Weelderige Velde (a South African specialty with 12 awards) or Le Temps des Récoltes, a 2020 Bordeaux Blanc from France with 9 awards.

You can also choose your favorites based on region, color, or specialty. Winc is less generous in options, and you can only filter the offer based on color and palate. Also, while Winc tries to offer some pairing guidance, it doesn’t reach Firstleaf’s level. a screenshot of 2018 Tulares Valley Petite Syrah available from firstleaf

Both companies have a membership and offer personalized recommendations based on your tastes. However, Winc’s membership includes 4 bottles each month, while Firstleaf’s features 6 or 12 bottles. You can learn more about how a Firstleaf subscription works from my colleague’s in-depth review of the service.

Both companies allow you to personalize the delivery schedule and skip or pause. Firstleaf also makes it easier to cancel, as you can use your online account (no need to contact support). Moreover, if you’re using the Firstleaf app, you can cancel the subscription from your smartphone. If you have questions or doubts, Firstleaf’s wine concierge team is ready to assist.

While Firstleaf can be slightly more expensive, I think it’s worth a try. Members get special offers (First box of 6 wines for only $45.00) and deals for wines that are quite pricey in the store. Also, the Fine Wine Collection features some truly impressive labels at equally impressive prices.

            2. Naked Wines – Best for Diversity

Naked Wines' Galodoro Reserva Vinho Regional Lisboa Red 2021

Naked Wines features a more diverse and, dare I say, more interesting list of wines than Winc. This happens because the company is focused on promoting independent winemakers that you don’t often find in regular stores.

Also, you can get in touch with the winemakers you like and other wine lovers. Just offering this possibility, I feel that Naked Wines manages to enhance the overall experience you have with wine. Plus, even if you’re an absolute beginner, you won’t feel left out – Naked Wines offers a wide range of resources, including tips on food pairings.

However, Naked Wines offers a bit of an unusual subscription. To become a member (or an “Angel,” as it’s called) and benefit from lower prices, freebies, and more, you have to pay a monthly fee ($40 at the time of this writing) whether you place an order or not. To learn more about this system, check out my colleague’s well-researched review of Naked Wines.

Naked is Wines is ideal If you like discovering new varieties and flavors from all over the world. Unlike Winc, which plays it safe and offers mostly known labels, Naked Wines’ offer includes interesting flavors and tastes from all over the world. Plus, the list of wines is curated by world-famous sommeliers with years of experience. a screenshot of naked wines' 2022 Mick Schroeter Dry Creek Fume Blanc Sauvignon Blanc

Both companies allow you to rate each bottle of wine, so you can mark your favorites. Also, you can see other customers’ reviews, which helps when choosing a new wine. However, Naked Wines provides more details, such as awards, in-depth information on the region, overall taste, and so on.

Independent winemakers are more focused on creating quality wines in small quantities. Plus, all these wines are created using sustainable methods that are environmentally friendly. And, since Naked Wines cuts out the middleman completely, the overall carbon footprint is smaller.

Naked Wines prices start at $7.99 per bottle for Angels. This is quite close to Winc’s prices, but if you decide to buy without a membership, it can get quite pricey. The good news is that you can cancel your membership whenever you want without any fees or delays.

            3. Vinesse – Best for Premium Bottles

Vinesse's 2021 Bramble Ridge Oregon Rosé

Vinesse’s selection is similar in size to Winc’s, but it comes with a different list of labels. So if you’re looking for a similar shopping experience and hoping to discover new wine varieties, this company may be a great alternative for you.

Vinesse works with award-winning winemakers and growers to ensure a diverse offer. I also like that the list of wines takes you on a worldwide journey, with labels from areas of the world that are famous for their flavors. As a result, Vinesse’s wine list includes classical favorites, exclusives, and newcomers.

Vinesse will spoil you with a wide selection of whites, reds, roses, and sparkling wines. This way, you can easily find the right flavor for every occasion, even if it’s a lazy afternoon by the pool with friends. a screenshot of vinesse's 2019 Viaggiatore Tuscany Italy Red Wine

Both companies offer detailed information about the wines on their list. These include the wine’s origin, notes, year, varietal, brand, and more. However, according to my colleague’s impressive review of Vinesse, you won’t find that much information on food pairings and other details that would come in handy to a beginner.

A Vinesse subscription starts with a few questions about your taste preferences, just like Wink. You also have the option of letting their team of wine specialists choose for you, which is a nice way of discovering new labels and flavors. Also, you won’t be charged for the bottles you don’t like, so feel free to explore.

When it comes to prices, Vinesses is on the pricier side, starting at $10.00 per bottle. However, you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time. This way, you can stock up on delicious wines and then take a break from monthly deliveries.
