It’s been some years since PeachDish closed down, but people are still talking about the Georgia-based meal delivery service. While big names like Home Chef have grown in this tough market, many smaller meal delivery companies have closed their doors.
While it may be gone, PeachDish had a lot of fans throughout its six-year run. If you were one of them and you want to know if Home Chef might be a suitable alternative, read on…

Alongside its meat dishes, PeachDish offered a range of vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, and gluten-free meals. It also offered some sweet options and so-called Superfood Recipes, featuring ingredients such as collard greens, pecans, sweet potatoes, and chickpeas. Around half the recipes PeachDish offered each week were vegan or vegetarian.
While PeachDish may have offered a higher percentage of vegetarian meals, Home Chef triumphs on volume. On the company’s menu of around 20 dishes per week, at least four are vegetarian – and it also gives the option to customize its other meals with plant-based Impossible Burger.
PeachDish was known to source organic, local produce where possible. Home Chef does give you the chance to “upgrad” to organic meat and seafood across many of its entrees – but PeachDish wins this one in absentia.
All that being said, neither Home Chef nor PeachDish is the best choice for those on stricter diets, such as keto or gluten-free.
Winner: Home Chef
In its prime, PeachDish offered nine dishes on the menu each week – some changed weekly while others changed seasonally – and many were inspired by classic southern cooking. This is a remarkably small menu, especially when compared to Home Chef’s 20+ offerings and the Home Chef Customize-It feature.
Home Chef aims at a wider audience with a more family-friendly menu. But with so many more items to choose from, you can find more sophisticated offerings like the Scallops and Loaded Potato Broccoli Chowder, alongside hearty pasta dishes and burgers.
The meal delivery service industry is fiercely competitive. PeachDish offered impressive recipes, but its limited selection ultimately limited its appeal to prospective customers.
Winner: Home Chef
With meals starting at $7.99 per serving, Home Chef is considerably cheaper than PeachDish was. At $12.50 per serving, PeachDish meals were among the most expensive on the market. No matter how good the food, PeachDish was competing with services that offered equally great meals for much less.
Winner: Home Chef
PeachDish, unlike Home Chef and most other meal delivery services, didn’t require a subscription – but guest customers were hit with extra shipping fees on their order.
And while PeachDish shipped free to some subscribers, depending on location, it charged an extra $15 for meals being delivered to western states. That means a one-time order to Arizona could have cost $27 in shipping fees alone.
One of the biggest disadvantages smaller meal delivery companies face is shipping costs. Larger companies like Home Chef (a wholly-owned subsidiary of supermarket giant Kroger) can get better deals on nationwide shipping and rely on shipping centers in various locations. As a result, Home Chef can send its packages nationwide from just $7.99.
Winner: Home Chef
While PeachDish had Quick Fix recipes that were easy to prepare, Home Chef caters to busy lifestyles with its Oven-Ready, Grill-Ready, 15-Minute Meal Kits, and Fast & Fresh prepared meals. For when you have more time, its traditional meal kits typically take around 30 to 40 minutes to make.
PeachDish wins points on serving sizes, though. While Home Chef, like most other meal delivery services, offers up to four servings per meal, PeachDish offered up to 12 servings on selected entrees. This is excellent for party planning – although Home Chef’s protein pack add-ons also make for a great grill-out.
Winner: Home Chef
Home Chef wins because PeachDish is closed. Even if PeachDish was still open, Home Chef would be tough to beat. It's often at the top of our best meal delivery list.
In fact, those of you who remember PeachDish fondly will find Home Chef a fabulous alternative, with a much larger menu.

Overall winner: Home Chef
When PeachDish was in operation, it focused on organic ingredients and offered nutrient-rich Superfoods recipes featuring ingredients like collard greens, pecans and chickpeas. Home Chef offers calorie-conscious meals and upgrades to organic proteins on some recipes.
At $7.99 per serving, Home Chef is considerably cheaper than PeachDish. While PeachDish had a very interesting menu, its $12.50 a plate price was steeper than the fiercely competitive meal delivery industry would bear.
Home Chef has a much greater weekly selection of meals (over 20) than PeachDish, and comes in at a much more budget-friendly price point. But since PeachDish is now closed, Home Chef wins this contest by default.
PeachDish announced in July 2019 that they would be taking a summer break and never reopened, much to the dismay of loyal customers. Those looking for a tasty PeachDish replacement will find that Home Chef’s wide selection and Customize It feature will give you everything you loved from PeachDish and more!
