How to Cancel Firstleaf Subscription 2024: It's Simple

Firstleaf makes it really easy to pause your future orders or cancel your subscription in the account settings. You don’t have to call customer support – even if you purchased your wine box using Firstleaf’s special discount.

Despite a large selection, Firstleaf doesn’t always have the most exciting wines on its virtual shelves. So it’s only natural to let your mind and eyes wander on other wine delivery services’ websites.

But before you can explore other options, you have to cancel your Firstleaf subscription. The good news is that the process is easy and pain-free, so you should be able to close your account in about 5 to 10 minutes.

I will walk you through the cancelation process and offer 3 impressive alternatives. For instance, my first recommendation, Naked Wines, is the perfect choice for more adventurous wine drinkers. If you're curious about my other recommendations, make sure to keep reading!

How to Cancel Your Firstleaf Orders – A Quick Guide

Firsleaf gives you 3 options if you decide to cancel – phone, email, or online account. I’ll walk you through all 3 methods, but for this quick guide, I’ll list the step-by-step process for the most popular one, which is via your online account.

So, without further ado, here are the steps to follow:

  1. Log in In a web browser, open the Firstleaf website and log into your account.

  2. Go to Your Account Click on Your Account from the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of the page.

  3. Look for the Membership Status section – On the left of the page, click on Membership Status to cancel. Firstleaf will try to understand why you’re canceling, so you may have to answer a few questions.

  4. Wait for your confirmation – Once you’ve submitted your cancelation request, wait for the confirmation email that states your subscription is completed.

  5. Move on to a different service – There’s no reason to live your life without your favorite sip of wine. So, once your subscription with Firstleaf is done, it’s time to find a new service, like my top recommendation, Naked Wines.

It’s important to mention that the other 2 methods involve chatting with a customer service rep. So if you don’t like phone calls (especially when you’re trying to close your subscription), canceling via your online account is the best option.

Step-By-Step: How to Cancel Firstleaf

Firstleaf may not be happy to see you go, but it won’t keep you by force, either. You can cancel at any time without having to pay any extra fees, as long as you don’t have an order in transit.

If you do have an order in transit, you can still cancel, but you’ll pay a restocking fee of $25. The fee will be withheld from your refund after you request that the current order be returned to the warehouse. However, keep in mind that you can only do this by phone, as you have to speak with a customer service representative.

It’s also important to know that you can adjust your preferences from your online account. For instance, if you’re not sure you want to quit yet, you can update the delivery frequency, change the following delivery date, or change your wine preferences.

If you do want to cancel, here are the steps to follow using your online account:

  1. Log into your Firstleaf account Open your go-to browser, go to the Firstleaf website, and click on the Log In button in the upper-right corner.

Print screen of Firstleaf's home page

  1. Go to Your Account Once you’re logged in, click on the drop-down menu on the right side of the page, and click on Your Account. This will take you to a page that includes all the details of your account, including your current subscription and previous orders.

  2. Look for the Membership Status section – Click Membership Status (on the left side of the page) and find the Cancel Membership button. Click on it, and this will start the cancelation process. You may have to answer a few questions about why you’re leaving, but this is the last step.

  3. Wait for your confirmation email – Firstleaf will check to see if you don’t have any pending shipments, and if everything is in order, it will send out your confirmation email. From this moment on, you are subscription-free!

If you want to cancel via phone, Firstleaf representatives are more than happy to be of assistance. You can reach out using the regular contact phone number (listed on the Firstleaf website) 7 days a week from 6 am to 5 pm PT. If you can’t call during operating hours, you can send an email, and a Firstleaf representative will be in touch as soon as possible.

Best Alternatives

1. Naked Wines – Best for Adventurous Wine Lovers

If you're on the hunt for new and exciting wine flavors, look no further than Naked Wines. With an ever-changing assortment of wines, this delivery service is well-known for its dedication to supporting small winemakers who prioritize quality over quantity.

When it comes to variety, Naked Wines certainly delivers. The wine selection encompasses popular varietals from various regions around the world. Whether you prefer wines from Napa Valley in the United States or countries like Australia, Chile, France, Spain, and beyond, you'll find something to suit your taste in this impressive collection of over 660 wines.

One notable difference between Naked Wines and Firstleaf is the wine selection process. While Firstlleaf asks detailed questions about your taste preferences to curate a personalized experience, Naked Wines gives you complete freedom to choose whichever bottles catch your eye. a screenshot of naked wines' 2021 David Marchesi Provare California Chardonnay

Whether it's a pre-built case or individual bottles that pique your interest, the choice is yours. Moreover, according to my colleague’s impressive Naked Wines review, you still have the option to rate the wines you purchase and receive personalized recommendations tailored to your preferences.

Another of Naked Wines' standout features is the Angel program. Instead of a traditional membership structure, as you get with Firstleaf, you become an Angel. This involves paying a monthly fee, regardless of whether you purchase wines that month or not, to support independent winemakers.

But there are perks to this membership, like enjoying discounts of up to 60% off market prices. You also get access to exclusive wines that are not available in traditional stores and get to connect with remarkable winemakers from all over the world.

The pricing structure makes Naked Wines an affordable option for wine enthusiasts. With prices starting at just $7.99 per bottle for members, Naked Wines rivals Firtleaf’s prices. Plus, newcomers get an incredible deal – Get 50% Off!!

2. Vinesse – Best for Affordability

If you're searching for boutique wines that are not typically found in stores, you must try Vinesse. Similar to Naked Wines, Vinesse focuses on sourcing from smaller vineyards, giving its club members access to a remarkable selection of unique and exclusive labels.

Vinesse also collaborates with some interesting vineyards around the world. As a club member, you get to benefit from its major network and decades of experience. Plus, Vinesse is not boring at all – its wine list includes labels from renowned regions such as France, Columbia, California, Argentina, and New Zealand.

Firstleaf uses a thumbs-up or down system, and Vinesse uses a "would buy again" rating system. While these systems seem similar, I find Vinesse’s approach more reliable, as it provides clearer insight.

I like that Vinesse used its expertise in the industry to design a meticulous sourcing process. According to my colleague’s deep dive into the company, each bottle is hand-selected by a specialized tasting panel to make sure only the best quality labels make it into the store. a screenshot of vinesse's 2021 El Persa Carinena Spain Garnacha

Speaking of the store, Vinesse has an extensive online shop. Here, you can purchase individual bottles or sampler packs containing 6 or 12 bottles. This way, you’re not dependent on your monthly subscription, and you can tailor your experience to fit your preferences and needs.

Besides catering to various flavor preferences, Vinesse also caters to various budgets. For club members, Vinesse offers prices starting at just $10.00 per bottle, which is quite impressive considering the level of variety and exclusivity the service provides.

Overall, Vinesse is great for both experienced connoisseurs and newbies. In all fairness, I would’ve loved to see a bit more focus on educating novice wine drinkers (something like Firstleaf’s Wine School), but it’s still a great service. Plus, members can easily find impressive labels for under $20 per bottle - who could argue with that?

3. Bright Cellars – Best for a Big Selection

Bright Cellars offers a wide selection of wines from vineyards around the world. Its carefully curated collection ensures that both red and white wine lovers will find something to enjoy, with options ranging from sweet and fruity to dry and tannic. And if you feel in the mood to party, there’s also margaritas!

According to Bright Cellars, all the wines are sourced from small and unique estates. According to my colleague’s review of Bright Cellars, the company employs a team of expert sommeliers. Their job is to scour every corner of the world in search of delicious wines to add to the current collection.

I also like that Bright Cellars takes personalized recommendations seriously. I mean, Firstleaf also has a quiz to try and make out your tastes, but Bright Cellars’ is a bit more advanced. This ensures that each month's selection is tailored to your individual palate. a screenshot of bright cellars' White Wine Variety Bundle

I’m not too happy that you can’t buy individual bottles outside of your subscription. There is the option to buy more, but only in bundles of 4, 6, 8, or 12 bottles per box. On the bright side, you can spice up your monthly delivery with a box of delicious margaritas, so it’s not that bad.

Bright Cellars’ box is elegant and perfectly designed to protect the bottles. It also comes with gorgeous wine cards that teach you about each wine and the best food pairings. However, the cards don’t compare to the level of education for beginners provided by Firstleaf’s Wine School.

When it comes to pricing, Bright Cellars is a bit on the steep side, starting at $10.00 per bottle. As a member, you get about 20% off the market price, the company offers all sorts of discounts.
