The 10 Best Wine Delivery in South Carolina Reviewed

1. Firstleaf – Best Award-Winning Wines

a screenshot of firstleaf's The Perfect No. 6 red wine

Key Features

  • Lots of good wines under $15

  • A “wine school” with interesting information

  • Red, white, rosé, sparkling, specialty, and fine wines available

  • Current deal: First box of 6 wines for only $45.00

Firstleaf offers an extensive collection of over 300 award-winning global wines. It sources from lesser-known regions, ensuring quality and affordability.

It’s also a personalized wine subscription service. It relies on advanced algorithms to deliver wines tailored to your preferences. You’ll find a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down system that curates future boxes accordingly, which I found pretty straightforward.

You can also fill out a 13-question quiz before getting your wine preferences. After that, 6 bottles are curated and delivered every 1 to 3 months. Learn more about the quiz and the overall selection in our full Firstleaf review.

The company is dedicated to catering to individual customer preferences while maintaining a high standard of quality. For instance, 1 of the top 30 wines in the Wine Spectator magazine’s Top 100 Wines of 2020 is offered on Firstleaf's platform. a screenshot firstleaf's 2020 Bodegas Viceroyalty Pinot Noir

The company also offers a "Wine School" with informative articles. This helps you deepen your understanding of wines and learn about all the different varieties if you’re unfamiliar with them.

Gifting is also available through an E-Gift Card ranging from $25 to $200. Although there's no option to send a customized box, you could sign someone up for the introductory box.

Shipping is free for the introductory box and costs $9.95 for orders after that. Deliveries are made by UPS Ground or FedEx Ground, taking 2-5 days to arrive once shipped. The company also ensures carbon-neutral delivery.

Customer service offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and a Wine Concierge service for a more enriching experience. This allows you to chat with an expert about your wine preferences and address any questions or issues about your order or delivery.

Starting from $7.49 per bottle, the service combines quality and affordability. It’s not the absolute cheapest wine delivery out there, but it’s pretty solid in my experience.

2. Naked Wines – Best Independent Wines

a screenshot of naked wines' Scott Peterson ROX Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2021

Key Features

  • Crowdfunding platform for independent winemakers

  • Unique angel membership program

  • Red, white, sweet, organic, sparkling, rosé, and more available

  • Current deal: Get 50% Off!

Naked Wines operates differently, as it doesn't send a monthly shipment. Instead, you’ll browse through numerous wine options, add bottles to your cart, and check out when you’re ready. Learn more about this model in our Naked Wines review.

The platform's personal recommendation system helps you select wines you're sure to enjoy. As you purchase and review more wines, Naked Wines understands your flavor preferences better, helping to predict which wines you'll enjoy.

Overall, Naked Wines has a decent selection of wines that changes regularly. However, options beyond basic reds and whites are essentially non-existent. You’ll also need to order a case of 6 bottles, at minimum.

Wines come from a diverse range of global regions. Although most wines are from the United States, there are options from other prominent wine-making areas like Australia, Chile, France, Spain, and more. I found that the site isn't easy to navigate if you're looking for a specific variety of wine.

The company lets you support independent winemakers by becoming part of its "Angel" program. The subscription fee, $40 per month, is used to fund winemakers globally. In exchange, you receive wholesale prices on the wines produced. a screenshot of Naked Wines' 2022 Mr Glover Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

However, your $40 monthly fee isn't a loss – rather, it's credited toward future purchases. As an "Angel," you enjoy exclusive wines, reduced prices, a free monthly gift bottle, and exclusive tasting events.

Every bottle has 2 prices: an “Angel” price and a non-member price. The membership fee is stored in your Naked Wines account and operates on a crowdfunding model where your money funds new wine production. In return, you receive substantial discounts. Usually, the "Angel" price is around 20 to 30% less than it would be for non-members.

You can send a wine box as a gift, but no special extras are available beyond a gift message. The packaging remains standard, and the recipient needs to verify their age upon delivery.

Purchasing a single bottle isn't allowed due to the wine packaging nature. At least 6 bottles must be ordered per purchase. This means, even if you're looking for a budget-friendly $10 wine, you'll need to spend at least $60.

The shipping fee is $9.99 or free for orders over $100. Delivery times range between 1-4 days for most states, excluding Ohio. You must be present to accept the delivery and verify your age. Convenient delivery options are available, such as delivering to your workplace or scheduling for local pickup.

3. Vinesse – Best Overall Wine Selection

a screenshot of vinesse's 2021 3 Muses Cellars Lodi, California Petite Sirah

Key Features

At Vinesse, the focus is on introducing special wines from small vineyards. It's rare to find these wines in regular stores. Publications like Self and Conde Nast Traveler have given high praise to Vinesse's selection.

Joining Vinesse is quite simple. All it takes is selecting your favorite types of wine, indicating if the membership is a gift or not, and providing your delivery and payment details. Once this is done, you become a member of a club that opens the door to unique wines from around the world.

There are 14 unique clubs that cater to different tastes, which our review covers in greater detail. If you prefer lighter wines, there's the "Light & Sweet" club. For those who enjoy exploring new flavors, the "World of Wine" club is perfect. There's even an "American Cellars" club for fans of wines made right here in the U.S. a screenshot of vinesse's 2021 Aurelia Cellars Zinfandel

One benefit of being a member is that you have control over the wine selections. You can choose the types of wine you want in your order. If you want only reds, whites, or a mix, you get exactly that.

Upon joining, you will receive an introductory offer of 8 wines for $49.99. This initial order lets you taste and understand the kind of wines Vinesse offers. After this, you can expect to receive a new selection every 5 to 7 weeks.

The cost of each shipment depends on the type of club you join. Generally, the price for a selection of 6 bottles ranges from $120 to $180, excluding tax and shipping. You only pay for the wine you receive, and there are no membership fees.

Vinesse’s wines are carefully packaged to avoid any damage during transit. You can have your wines shipped to your home or office. If you're not at home during delivery, you can pick them up at a local FedEx location.

4. Bright Cellars – Best Taste Personalization Quiz

a screenshot of bright cellars' red, white, & sparkling celebration box

Key Features

  • Personalized wine selection based on taste quiz

  • Ability to rate wines for refinement

  • Red, white, sparkling, and rosé available

Bright Cellars offers a wide selection of wines that cater to different tastes. Options include everything from sweet and fruity to dry and tannic. If unsure of your preferences, Bright Cellars has a quiz to help you determine what you might enjoy.

The wine delivery service provides a choice of wines from all over the world. Regions include local US wines to imported bottles. It sources its wines from small, unique estates and offers different flavors that go beyond grapes, such as apple, watermelon, chocolate, and more.

Bright Cellars' shop feature presents wines and cocktails, categorized for easy browsing. The selection gets updated every month, and wines suit various occasions, such as weddings or casual dinners. Detailed information, including serving temperature and alcohol content, is provided as well.

There are various bundle selections on Bright Cellars' menu, but customization options are limited. Unfortunately, the service doesn't allow purchases of individual bottles or a selection of wines from different bundles to create a custom mix. a screenshot of the Wine Tasting Bundle from Bright Cellars

Signing up for Bright Cellars comes with benefits like reward points and referral bonuses. Find out more about these in our review. There's a quiz to guide you in choosing wines that match your taste. Answering the quiz questions helps Bright Cellars generate a profile for personalized recommendations.

Once you have personalized your order and chosen the box, you proceed to checkout. The wines come in a cardboard box with detailed cards about each wine. The packaging is recyclable, apart from the corks.

The wine selection changes every month, and there are top picks. For example, right now options include the Pinot Grigio 2021, Merlot 2021, and Montepulciano 2021. These wines come from California and are included in various bundles.

Your order gets shipped within 2-4 business days after placement, with tracking information. An adult signature is required for receipt of the order.

5. Wine Insiders – Best Budget-Friendly Wine Club

a screenshot of wine insiders' Backside Barrel Sparkling Moscato

Key Features

  • Plenty of 90+ rated wines under $20

  • Lots of exclusive wines

  • Red, white, sparkling, sweet, rosé, dessert, and more available

Wine Insiders is known for reasonable prices and a large selection of wines. Many are curated by celebrities like Martha Stewart. This store offers a variety of wines that cost less than $20, from different regions around the world, improving your wine tasting experience. Check out the full list of offerings in my Wine Insiders review.

The store stocks many types of wine including red, white, sparkling, rosé, and dessert wines. Wines from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Chile, France, Italy, Hungary, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, and the US are all available. However, some famous types like Chianti are absent.

The site boasts a selection of around 100 wine varietals. Some even feature a single wine from a single winemaker. Although it lacks many major, recognizable brands, the available selection is still impressive. Some specialty products such as organic and vegan wines, canned wine, and cocktails are also offered.

The range of quality varies, with many wines rated above 90 and priced under $20. However, it doesn't offer expensive, vintage, or "fancy" wines. The most expensive option is the 2020 Wine Insiders Ruby Collection Bordeaux Blanc, priced at $24.99. There are also more expensive options in larger "Magnum" bottles. a screenshot of wine insiders' 2020 Marquis de Bacalon Bordeaux Blanc

Details about each bottle, such as the winery, variety, year, type, ABV, country, and region are provided. It also offers 6 categories of wine sets under various price ranges and sizes, including Magnum sets. The 3 best-selling sets are the World of Rosé Trio, Geoffrey’s Dark & Delicious Cabs Trio, and Best-In-Class Half Case.

You can also subscribe to receive 12 bottles every 12 weeks in white, red, or mixed boxes. The first order comes with 3 bonus bottles and a surprise wine accessory gift with certain shipments.

Prices start at $8.99 and go up to around $25 for standard bottles. Magnum wine sets range from $35 for a single bottle up to around $47 per bottle for a case of 6. For more savings, the company offers discounts using the discount code Get 10% off + FREE shipping!.

6. The California Wine Club – Best West Coast Wines

a screenshot of the california wine club's Shannon Ridge Home Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon

Key Features

  • Handpicked selection of premium California wines

  • Exclusive access to limited-production and aged wines

  • Red and white wines available

California Wine Club specializes in quality wines from the west coast US. The company first started by offering wine from California but has since expanded its offerings to the pacific northwest and internationally. You’re basically supporting small family winemakers – more of which you can learn about in my colleague’s review.

The wine collection comprises an array of varietals, including both red and white wines. Red wine lovers can indulge in bold and rich Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel, among others.

There are also white wines for those who prefer that. The selection includes refreshing Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling, among others. Each wine is carefully curated, ensuring the highest quality and taste.

California Wine Club offers a variety of wine-of-the-month clubs to cater to different preferences. The Signature Series club features highly rated and limited-production wines from renowned vineyards, offering a luxurious experience. The Premier Series club includes award-winning wines that represent the diversity of California's wine regions. a screenshot of California Wine Club's 2021 Lakeview Vineyard Pinot Noir

For small-production, handcrafted wines, the Aged Cabernet Series club is an excellent choice. It features Cabernet Sauvignon aged 8-12 years. The International Selections club allows members to explore exceptional wines from different regions worldwide, expanding their wine horizons.

Additionally, California Wine Club provides a unique club called The Pacific Northwest Series. This focuses on outstanding wines from Oregon and Washington State, known for their cool-climate varietals.

Members benefit in a variety of ways. From detailed tasting notes, the club's magazine, discounts on reorders, and the flexibility to customize shipments, California Wine Club ensures a delightful wine discovery experience.

Prices start at $10.99 per bottle. It also offers 4 gift categories like Wine Club Gifts, Wine Gift Sets, Business Wine Gifts, and Electronic Gift Certificates.

7. Wine Awesomeness – Best In-Depth Wine Info

a screenshot of wine awesomeness's 2018 Paritua Chardonnay

Key Features

  • Curated wine boxes with unique themes

  • In-depth wine education via digital publication

  • Red, white, sparkling, rosé, organic, cans

Wine Awesomeness curates a collection of wines for you each month. Rather than simply catering to your pre-existing preferences, the service introduces you to new flavors, aiming to broaden your wine knowledge and enrich your overall wine-tasting experience.

I personally also appreciate "The Back Label," a publication that provides in-depth wine info. This digital magazine offers a wealth of knowledge and tips related to wine and lifestyle. As such, it's equally beneficial for seasoned wine enthusiasts and individuals who are just beginning to explore the world of wine.

Wine Awesomeness presents 2 primary subscription plans. For $49, you get 3 bottles, and for $79, you receive 6 bottles. Given the free shipping provided with these subscriptions, both options offer excellent value for money.

The service adds an engaging twist by choosing wines based on a unique theme each month. For example, some of the past themes have celebrated French wines, focused on rosé wines, and showcased wines that pair well with barbecue.

As our reviewer notes, options include red, white, sparkling, rosé, organic, and cans. There are also some interesting collections from famous TV celebrities, social media users, and even an “etiquette advice institution”. Examples include Opopop, Shannon St. Clair, Nail Betch, and Emily Post. a screenshot of wine awesomeness's 2019 Mottura Primitivo del Salento

Beyond these subscription boxes, Wine Awesomeness also runs an online store. Here, customers can purchase individual wines, giving them the flexibility to explore wines outside their subscriptions.

Adding a fun element to its service, Wine Awesomeness features a "mystery" wine option. This allows you to receive a surprise bottle of wine for a set price. This mystery bottle could be a red, white, rosé, or even sparkling wine.

Every wine in the Wine Awesomeness selection comes with a rating out of 5. This system makes it simple for subscribers to identify the most popular choices. However, the platform currently lacks a feature for written user reviews, which could provide additional insight into the wine selections.

Lastly, the company caters to gift-giving needs with a wide variety of options. Among these are curated wine gift boxes centered around specific themes. The boxes come in different sizes, making them adaptable to various occasions. This service truly makes the process of gifting wine simple, enjoyable, and meaningful.

8. Macy’s Wine Shop – Great Wines for Gifting

a screenshot of macy's wine shop's 2019 Fox and the Flock Zinfandel

Key Features

  • Exclusive access to limited-production wines

  • Detailed tasting notes for informed choices

  • Red, white, rosé, and sparkling available

At Macy's Wine Club, it's all about exploring a wide selection of different wines. Macy's Wine Club offers 4 distinct wines: red, white, rosé, and sparkling. Red wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel have bold and rich flavors that you can enjoy with meals or on their own.

On the other hand, there are also a good number of white wines available. For instance, you can choose from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling, which have a refreshing and crisp character.

Some popular choices include Zinfandel, Malbec, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and more. As noted by our reviewer, there are more reds than white. In terms of regions, it’s pretty bog-standard with wines from Australia, Argentina, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, and a few others.

You can also get different collections of wines curated to cater to your various preferences. For example, the Sommelier's Choice features wines recommended by experts in the field. Macy's Wine Club carefully selects these wines for their exceptional quality and unique flavors, ensuring a special wine experience. a screenshot of Macy's Wine Shop's 2021 Tre Barili de Vino Toscana Bianco

Additionally, Macy's Wine Club offers a selection of organic and vegan options. These allow you to enjoy your favorite wines while aligning with your values.

As a member of the wine club, you enjoy exclusive benefits that are tailored to your needs. You have the privilege of accessing limited-production wines that are often hard to find elsewhere, giving you the opportunity to discover hidden gems and unique flavors.

Macy's Wine Club provides detailed tasting notes for each wine, describing its flavor profile. This helps you learn more about the wines you enjoy and make informed choices. You also have the flexibility to customize your shipments based on your preferences, ensuring you receive wines that perfectly suit your individual tastes.

There are gift options including 3-, 6-, or 12-bottle Wine Sets. Other gifts include Luxe Gifts and Wedding Wines. You also get access to more categories like Essential Wines, Easy-Drinking Reds, and Award Winners.

9. Monthly Clubs – Best Rare Boutique Wines

a screenshot of monthly club's J. Bouchon Canto Sur Maule Valley 2021

Key Features

  • Wines from the west coast US and around the world

  • Curated tasting notes and wine magazine

  • Diverse range of red and white varietals

Signing up for Monthly Club is like getting a monthly surprise of flavors right at your doorstep. As a member, you receive wines from around the globe, each with a unique taste. The varieties are endless, from red to white, and even the occasional sparkler.

The company has a fairly respectable number of different wines you can try. You can expect selections such as Moscato, Albariño, Grüner Veltliner, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, among others. Read my colleague’s full review for more details on the wines available.

Skilled sommeliers with a deep understanding of wines curate each monthly package. These professionals ensure you get wines of great quality, like the J. Bouchon Canto Sur Maule Valley 2021, Graffito Mendoza Riesling 2022, and Wildberry Estate Reserve Margaret River Chardonnay 2016.

There are 4 distinct monthly wine clubs available to you: The Premier Series, The Bold Reds, The Masters Series, and The Collectors Series. Every month, you can look forward to receiving 2 exclusive bottles from each of these series. You can choose either red or white wines that aren't made in large amounts, usually from renowned wineries. a screenshot of Monthly Clubs' 2020 Emile Beyer Eguisheim Pinot Noir

Every month you can anticipate a well-packaged box arriving at your home. Inside, you'll find not just carefully protected wine bottles but also possibly some unexpected bonuses or treats.

Each bottle also comes with a description card. It gives you information about the wine's origin, its flavor profile, and what foods pair well with it. It's like having your own personal wine guide to enhance your experience.

Being part of the Monthly Wine Club also acts like solid wine education. It enables you to learn about different flavors and characteristics that define wines from various regions. It's as if you're on a tasting tour without ever leaving your home.

The Club understands that everyone has different needs, and so it offers flexibility. You get to choose the length of your membership, whether it's a short few months or a full year. You can also customize your orders to suit your preferences, say if you have a leaning towards red wines or have a curiosity for wines from specific regions.

10. Wine Library – Affordable 90+ Point Wines

a screenshot of wine library's 2022 Chateau Miraval Rose Cotes De Provence

Key Features

  • In-depth information on every bottle + expert ratings

  • Large selection of wines + other liquor like beer and spirits

  • Red, white, sparkling, rosé, dessert, sweet, and lots more

Wine Library is unique in that it offers a wide range of wines and other liquor products. The owner, Gary Vaynerchuk, makes it his mission to recommend wines that both taste great and don’t cost a fortune. Though, prices vary greatly, and it’s more like a traditional, a la carte liquor store.

You can find an extensive selection of wines from various regions around the world. The company offers wines of different types, including red, white, sparkling, and rosé, catering to diverse palates and preferences.

I particularly appreciate the best $20 to $30 wines and 90+ rated wines categories. These 2 categories are a great way to get excellent quality wines at very attractive prices. Regions include Spain, Italy, Portugal, US, France, and Argentina, among others. You’ll also virtually find any type of wine from Riesling to Chardonnay to any reds you can think of. a screenshot of the 2021 Tenuta Pietramora Vermentino Toscana Limite from Wine Library

It’s also committed to wine education. The company offers a wealth of information through its website, including detailed descriptions and customer reviews for each wine. This allows customers to make informed decisions based on the flavors, aromas, and characteristics of the wines.

Additionally, Gary Vaynerchuk himself does review videos for lots of wines on offer. However, some of the videos are on the older side now, as he doesn’t do many of those anymore. You can find these videos at Wine Library TV.

Wine Library also provides personalized recommendations based on your preferences. You can sign up for various email lists that send you promotions, discounts, and suggestions for wines you might enjoy (plus other types of liquor).

In addition to wines, it also offers wine-related accessories and products. From wine glasses and decanters to corkscrews and wine preservation tools, the company provides a range of items to enhance your wine enjoyment and appreciation.

Tips for Choosing the Best Wine Delivery South Carolina

Here’s what I considered when choosing the best services. I recommend keeping the following points in mind when making your selection:

  • Selection: Look for a service that offers a broad range of wine types from various regions, both domestic and international. This is important if you appreciate variety or are interested in trying new wines.

  • Quality: While variety is important, quality should not be compromised. Look for a service that delivers wines from well-regarded vineyards and producers. User reviews and ratings can help you judge this aspect.

  • Delivery speed and reliability: Consider how quickly and reliably the service can deliver your order. This is especially important if you're ordering for a special occasion or event. It's always a good idea to check customer reviews for information on this.

  • Price and value: Evaluate whether the service offers good value for the price. This involves comparing the prices of wines, delivery charges, and any additional fees. It can also be useful to see if they offer a subscription service or discounts on bulk orders.

FAQ

Can you get wine delivered in South Carolina?

Yes! South Carolina allows ordering and delivery of alcohol online. Check out a service like Firstleaf for the best wine delivery in South Carolina for this year. It offers a solid selection of award-winning wines that don’t break the bank (lots available under $15).

What are the best wine delivery clubs in South Carolina?

One of the best this year is Naked Grape. It has an impressive selection of fine wines from independent winemakers. These are wines you may not likely find in your local liquor store. The personalized service is something else I find very helpful and interesting. It helps you get other wines that fit your flavor profile.

How does a wine club work?

It works by offering members regular deliveries of wine, on a monthly or quarterly basis. Members pay a subscription fee and receive a curated selection of wines, often with tasting notes and pairing suggestions. One of my favorites for this year is Vinesse.
