The 10 Best Wine Delivery Massachusetts Reviewed

1. Firstleaf – Best Gourmet Wines

a screenshot of firstleaf's Maader 99 Pinotage

Key Features

  • Highly regarded wines under $15

  • The “wine school” features tons of educational information

  • Red, white, rosé, sparkling, specialty, and fine wines available

  • Current deal: First box of 6 wines for only $45.00

Firstleaf boasts a collection of over 300 distinct wines from different corners of the world. You'll find selections from wine areas you don’t usually think of, including Greece and Chile. You’re likely to find high-end options here that don’t necessarily break the bank, either.

Firstleaf gets to know what tickles your palate by utilizing a 13-question quiz. Based on your input, it carefully selects 6 wines, delivering them to your doorstep every 1 to 3 months.

Your feedback also matters. It uses a thumbs-up or thumbs-down system to tailor your next wine selections, ensuring a better match each time. Check out my colleague’s Firstleaf review for an in-depth overview of how the company operates.

It's also impressive that Firstleaf taste-tests 10,000 wines from around the world, so you only get the best of the best (according to the tasting team, anyway). If you're a wine newbie (like me!) or are simply looking to level up your understanding, there's also the “Wine School”. It’s basically a blog packed with informative articles about all things wine. a screenshot of Firstleaf's 2020 Ruskin Ridge Zinfandel

If you’re thinking of gifting someone, Firstleaf also provides e-gift cards between $25-$200. You can use this to buy anything on the site and send it to your favorite family members or friends.

Your first order includes free shipping – but subsequent ones have a $9.95 tag. You can anticipate your wine package within 2-5 days of dispatch. Plus, it ensures every delivery is carbon-neutral as well, which not all companies can say.

Firstleaf also offers a satisfaction guarantee and a Wine Concierge service for any clarifications or guidance. If you’re not satisfied with any aspect of your order, you can get reimbursed for the full value of your bottle. You can then use the money toward another wine of your choice in your next shipment.

Pricing starts at $7.49 per bottle, offering a harmonious blend of quality and value. And if you're looking to stretch your dollar further, you might want to peek at Wine Insiders.

2. Naked Wines – Best Small, Independent Wines

a screenshot of naked wines' Benjamin Darnault Domaine De Montahuc 2019 Muscat Blanc

Key Features

  • Support independent wineries through crowdfunding

  • The Angel membership nets you some great discounts

  • Red, white, sweet, organic, sparkling, rosé, and more available

  • Current deal: Get 50% Off!

With Naked Wines, you can pick the wines you like instead of just getting a set box every month. Some places decide for you, but here, you're in control. If you want a deeper dive, my colleague wrote a very detailed review about how Naked Wines works.

It has a recommendation system that helps you find wines based on what you like. As you buy and rate more wines, it gets better at suggesting wines you'll enjoy. I find this to be pretty unique in that the new wines you get will more than likely suit your flavor preferences.

Naked Wines’ wine list is pretty big and changes often. But, it mostly has regular reds and whites. You also can't just buy 1 bottle; you need to get at least 6. If you want just 1 bottle, Firstleaf might be the way to go.

The wines come from everywhere, but a lot are from the US. It also has some great picks from big wine countries like Italy, New Zealand, and Portugal. You can use the filter system to pinpoint your favorites. a screenshot of Naked Wines' 2021 Stefano di Blasi IGT tre Venezie

Also, an "Angel" program lets you back independent winemakers with a monthly $40 subscription. In return, you get wines for cheaper. That $40 acts like a credit for your wine shopping. As an "Angel", you get unique wines, lower prices, a free bottle monthly, and invites to wine tasting events. You’re also free to terminate your Angel membership anytime.

On the main site, you’ll find that each wine has 2 price tags: a cheaper one for "Angels" and a standard one. The "Angel" price is usually 20-30% less because you support the winemakers. It’s up to you to determine whether your $40 subscription will be worth it to save money on your bottles.

When gifting wine, the box looks normal, but you’re free to add a note. The person getting it needs to prove they can legally drink. They'll need an official ID with a picture when the wine shows up.

Prices start at $7.99 for each bottle. Shipping costs $9.99, but if you spend more than $100, it's free. The wine takes 1 to 4 days to get to most places (with the exception of Ohio, if you’re looking for gifts).

Someone has to be there to take the delivery and prove they're at least 21. Keep in mind that Naked Wines can also send your orders to your place of work or a local pickup spot as well.

3. Vinesse – Best Overall Variety

a screenshot of vinesse's 2018 Laetitia Cuvee M Arroyo Grande Valley Sparkling Blend

Key Features

Vinesse strives to deliver specialty wines from hidden vineyard gems directly to your table. These aren't the bottles you'd stumble upon in your usual liquor store. Well-regarded magazines, including Self and Conde Nast Traveler, have highlighted its offerings.

Getting on board with Vinesse is straightforward. Choose your preferred wine variety, mention if it's a gift, and provide your shipping and billing details. Before you know it, you're part of a special circle with access to exceptional wines from various corners of the world. Dive deeper in my colleague’s thorough Vinesse review.

Vinesse caters to an array of wine palates with 14 different clubs on its roster. The "Light & Sweet" club might be up your alley if you prefer softer wines. If tasting a global array sounds enticing, then the "World of Wine" club awaits. Or, if you lean toward American flavors, there's the "American Cellars" club. a screenshot of vinesse's 2020 Long Street Sonoma County Chardonnay

Being a club member means the wine decisions rest with you. It's up to you whether your orders lean heavy on reds, are predominantly whites, or if you prefer a balanced mix of both. The choice is completely up to you.

To welcome you, Vinesse introduces a teaser set of 8 wines for $49.99, letting you get a taste of its curated selection. Afterward, a curated batch awaits you every 5 to 7 weeks.

Your bill for each delivery is determined by your chosen club. Typically, prices kick off at $10.00 per package. The best part? No hidden membership costs – it's just the wine that gets billed.

Vinesse ensures each bottle is securely packaged to survive the journey unscathed. You can also choose whether you want your wines delivered to your home or office. If a delivery misses you, you have the convenience of collecting it from a local FedEx station.

4. Bright Cellars – Best Personalized Wines

a screenshot of bright cellars' "The Pink Drink Box"

Key Features

  • Personalized wine recommendations via a quiz

  • Rate the wines you’ve tried

  • Red, white, sparkling, and rosé available

Bright Cellars delivers a world of wines straight to your doorstep, with selections from quirky, lesser-known vineyards. This lets you dive into a spectrum of flavors, ranging from classic grape wines to unexpected tastes reminiscent of apple, watermelon, or even a hint of chocolate.

There's a wine for every palate here, be it sweet and fruity or dry and potent. Unsure about your preferences? There's a nifty quiz on Bright Cellars to guide you. Dive deeper into how this quiz nails personalization in my colleague’s review.

No event is too big or small; from weddings to simple backyard sips, there’s a wine for that. Each wine comes with handy info, like optimal serving temperature and its alcohol content. I found the information available on Bright Cellars to be slightly ahead of some of the competition.

Bright Cellars rolls out an array of wine bundles, though there's a catch. Individual bottle selection or mixing and matching between bundles isn’t an option. If you’d rather choose specific bottles, Wine Awesomeness might be more down your alley. a screenshot of bright cellars' Red Wine Variety Bundle

Joining Bright Cellars comes with perks like reward points and referral bonuses. Kickstart your personalized wine journey by taking the quiz. Your responses steer Bright Cellars to wines that'll tickle your taste buds.

Post-quiz, pick your wine box, and proceed to checkout. Expect your wines nestled in a cardboard box, accompanied by informative cards detailing each wine. Every bottle is sectioned off from the others, which ensures safe delivery.

The company also keeps your wine journey fresh by introducing new wine bundles. Take the spotlighted wine bundle “Dinner Party Bundle”, for instance. This features a collection of red, white, and sparkling wines like the 2021 Azuli Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, and the 2021 Cabin 5 Montepulciano from California.

Once your order's in, expect a dispatch within 2 to 4 business days. You'll be looped in with tracking details. But remember, upon delivery, a signature from someone 21 or older with a valid ID is a must. Pricing? It begins at $10.00 a bottle.

5. Wine Insiders – Best Budget-Friendly Wines

a screenshot of wine insiders' Backside Barrel Pink Moscato

Key Features

  • 90+ rated wines under $20

  • More exclusive, budget-friendly wines

  • Red, white, sparkling, sweet, rosé, dessert, and more available

Wine Insiders has made waves for its broad spectrum of budget-friendly wines.  Its star-studded curations, like the ones by Martha Stewart, add to its appeal. Other celebrity curators include Geoffrey Zakarian and Ludo Lefebre.

Most of its wine offerings have a price tag under $20, with their origins spanning the globe. This platform is ideal for anyone eager to explore diverse wines. For an in-depth perspective, see my comprehensive Wine Insiders review.

The variety you can expect is also quite striking. You’ll find everything from reds, whites, sparkling, and rosé, to even sweet dessert wines. These bottles have rich histories from countries like Argentina, Austria, Chile, France, Italy, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and half a dozen more, including the US. a screenshot of wine insiders' 2022 Palaka Aloha Rosé

Wine Insiders promises plenty of choices and showcases, at minimum, 100 different bottles. Occasionally, you'll spot an exclusive wine by a particular winemaker. While it might skip over some famous brands, its collection still managed to catch my eye. The company even offers niche choices like organic, vegan, canned wines, and assorted cocktails.

Many wines on its roster score above 90 and are surprisingly affordable at only under $20. However, if your heart's set on vintage or ultra-premium wines, you might want to look elsewhere. That in mind, the 2020 Marquis de Bacalon Bordeaux Blanc is a standout bottle, which holds an impeccable 5-star rating from 6 reviews.

Each bottle's specifics are laid out on the website – everything from the vineyard, type, vintage, and alcohol percentage, to its origin country, and region. There are 6 wine set categories to choose from, varying in price and volume, including very large Magnum bottles.

For wine enthusiasts wanting consistent deliveries, there's a subscription option as well. You'll receive 12 bottles every 12 weeks, with choices of white, red, or a blend. Your first shipment throws in 3 extra bottles and certain orders come with a nifty wine-related gift.

Prices start at a modest $8.99, with standard bottles maxing out at roughly $25. Magnum wine sets range from $35 for one to about $47 each in a 6-bottle case. Don't forget to apply the discount code Get 10% off + FREE shipping! for more savings.

6. The California Wine Club – Best West Coast US Wines

a screenshot of the california wine club's Cabana Winery 2022 Lodi Sauvignon Blanc

Key Features

  • Premium California and US west coast wines

  • Limited-production, aged wines available

  • Red and white wines available

California Wine Club began its journey by spotlighting wines exclusively from California. Now, its offerings encompass regions stretching to the Pacific Northwest and further. Supporting this club means you're directly supporting small, family-run wineries. Check out my colleague’s in-depth review if you're looking to delve deeper.

The wine selection at this club is expansive, spanning both reds and whites. For red wine aficionados, it boasts robust flavors, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel leading the pack.

If your palate tilts towards white wines, it doesn't disappoint either. Choices abound, with standout names like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling. The club ensures that each wine on its shelf is meticulously selected for its premier quality and authentic taste.

Diverse monthly wine clubs are at your disposal, and they're crafted for a range of wine preferences. The Signature Series club is tailor-made for those with a penchant for exclusive, limited-run wines. Conversely, the Premier Series club is a haven for enthusiasts of the varied wine landscapes of California, presenting award-winning wines for your tasting pleasure. a screenshot of california wine club's 2018 Leah Jorgensen Cellars Malbec

If you like artisanal wines in small batches, the Aged Cabernet Series club should be on your radar. It's dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon wines that have matured for 8-12 years. Additionally, the International Selections club caters to those eager to embark on a global wine-tasting journey.

But that's not all – the club has carved out a niche with its Pacific Northwest Series club. This particular club is a nod to the exemplary wines from Oregon and Washington State, territories celebrated for their signature cool-climate wines.

Membership in this club is more than just about wine; it's an experience. You're privy to exhaustive tasting notes, an exclusive magazine, enticing discounts on subsequent orders, and the flexibility to personalize your shipments. With California Wine Club, you're assured a curated wine exploration.

Price points kick off at $10.99 for each bottle, which also extends a gamut of gifting possibilities. You've got 4 curated categories to sift through: Wine Club Gifts, Wine Gift Sets, Business Wine Gifts, and, for those digital natives, Electronic Gift Certificates.

7. Wine Awesomeness – Best Wine Info

a screenshot of wine awesomeness's 2018 2020 Casa De La Ermita Joven Organic Monastrell

Key Features

  • Wine subscription offers interesting themes

  • “The Back Label” digital magazine offers wine education

  • Red, white, sparkling, rosé, organic, cans available

Wine Awesomeness is a service that lets you try different wines every month. Instead of always drinking the same wines, this service introduces you to new ones. The company creates special wine boxes with wines you might not know about. My colleague wrote a full review if you’d like some more info about it.

It also offers "The Back Label" magazine online, which is a digital guide about wine. I found it helpful as it shares knowledge and tips about wine for everyone, whether you're new to wine or already love it.

You can choose from 2 subscription plans with Wine Awesomeness. The first plan gives you 3 bottles for $49. The second one offers 6 bottles for $79. Both plans include free shipping, making it a good value for money.

Every month, the wines come with a theme. Themes from before include French wines, rosé wines, and wines perfect for barbecues. These are just examples, though – check the site often for the most up-to-date themes as they change frequently throughout the year.

You can expect different types of wines: red, white, sparkling, rosé, and even organic. You can also get wine in cans. Wine Awesomeness also offers special collections from internet celebrities like Opopop, Shannon St. Clair, Nail Betch, and Emily Post. a screenshot of wine aswesomeness's 2019 Radford Dale Renaissance Chenin Blanc

If you don't want a subscription, Wine Awesomeness allows you to buy single wines. This means you can order wines even if they're not in your monthly box. I appreciate the flexibility as it’s sometimes nice to just try something you haven’t before.

The company also sells a "mystery" wine. For a set price, you get a random wine. It could be any type: red, white, rosé, or sparkling. Remember, trying any wine has some element of surprise.

Each wine on Wine Awesomeness gets a rating out of 5. This helps you know which wines people enjoy the most. Ratings are created by staff members and fellow wine drinkers based on their respective experiences.

Lastly, if you're looking for gifts, that’s covered as well. It offers themed gift boxes with different wine choices, which are designed for various occasions, making gifting easier. Prices start at $13.25.

8. Macy’s Wine Shop – Best Small-Batch Wines

a screenshot of macy's wine shop's Racine Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Brut

Key Features

  • Small-batch wines that are exclusive

  • Extensive tasting profiles for each bottle

  • Red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines available

At Macy's Wine Club, you can pick up individual bottles or dive into the club membership. If you choose the membership, you'll explore a curated selection of 6 wines from various corners of the globe every 3 months.

Stick with the club for an entire year, and there's a delightful bonus in store: 2 additional wine deliveries, perfectly timed for both the winter's chill and summer's warmth.

Macy's Wine Club boasts an extensive variety: red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines. Reds are quite predominant, with a palette ranging from Cabernet Franc and Montepulciano to the distinct flavors of Petite Sirah and Sangiovese. Whether you're pairing it with dinner or just enjoying a glass, these reds won't disappoint.

For white wine enthusiasts, Macy's Wine Club presents an array that’s just as impressive. You can savor everything from a delicate Chardonnay and crisp Muscadet to the sweet notes of Moscato and refreshing Pinot Grigio. These wines journey from various regions including the sun-kissed valleys of Portugal and the mountainous terrains of Chile. a screenshot of macy's wine shop's 2020 StraBIOrdante Organic Nero di Troia Puglia I.G.T.

Macy's Wine Club also offers curated wine collections tailored to discerning tastes. The Sommelier's Choice, for instance, features wines handpicked by wine aficionados. And if you have a preference for vegan or organic wines, Macy's Wine Club ensures you have a selection right at your fingertips.

Membership comes with its perks. You get the chance to taste rare wines, which are crafted in limited batches. Our expert reviewer appreciated that each wine is paired with detailed tasting notes, ensuring you capture every nuance as you sip.

If you’re thinking of gifting, Macy's Wine Club has versatile wine sets, available in batches of 3, 6, or 12 bottles. The sets are varied, from the opulent Luxe Gifts to pocket-friendly Wine Sets, and even selections perfect for weddings.

Additionally, you can explore other wine sets, too. These include the Essential Wines, smooth Easy-Drinking Reds, and the prestigious Award Winners.

9. Monthly Clubs – Best Rare Collector Wines

a screenshot of monthly club's Tikal Júbilo Mendoza 2018 Malbec/Cab Sauv

Key Features

  • Collector wines available

  • Detailed food pairing info + tasting notes

  • Red and white wines available

With the Monthly Wine Club, you explore wines from various corners of the globe every month. Dive into an array of wines such as red, white, and even the occasional sparkling variety.

The selection isn't skimpy, either, though it doesn’t offer the largest selection. You'll find options like Sangiovese, Pinot Bianco, Riesling, rich Merlot, versatile Pinot Noir, and robust Shiraz, to name a few. For the most sheer variety, I definitely recommend checking out Firstleaf instead.

Your wines aren't pulled out of a hat. The club employs knowledgeable sommeliers who handpick only the top flavors. You'll find exclusive wines such as S. Sebastião Vinho Regional Lisboa Syrah/Touriga Nacional Reserva 2020 and Herdade Aldeia de Cima Serra do Mendro Alentejo Reserva Tinto 2019 on the list. a screenshot of monthly clubs' 2022 Thistledown Gorgeous Shiraz

You get to select from 4 unique monthly wine clubs: The Premier Series, The Bold Reds, The Masters Series, and The Collectors Series. With each month, anticipate 2 distinctive bottles from your chosen club. Opt for either elusive reds or whites, typically acquired from esteemed wineries.

Our reviewer was impressed that every wine arrives with a detailed card. These cards clue you in about its origin, flavor profile, and suitable food pairings. Imagine having a mini wine connoisseur guide you with every pour.

Membership isn't just about sipping; it's a learning curve. Over time, you'll come to learn about unique flavors and realize that wines from distinct regions offer specific wine-drinking experiences. Think of it as a gourmet journey, right from your living room.

The club also offers flexible options for those with commitment concerns. Decide on your membership span, whether it's several months or an entire year. Also, customize your wine lineup based on your tastes, be it a love for reds or an urge to savor wines from specific regions.

Tips for Choosing the Best Wine Delivery Massachusetts

When picking the best wine services this year, I had a few things on my checklist. If you're on the hunt too, here are some tips that might guide you:

  • Variety: Look for a service that gives you a broad selection, from local favorites to global gems. If you love tasting different wines or are curious about new ones, this is key. At the very least, make sure the service has options from regions you love, whether it's the US, Spain, Portugal, Australia, Chile, or anywhere else you prefer.

  • Quality: Having a lot of options is great, but the wines have to suit your preferences. So, choose a service that gets its wines from the best vineyards and makers. Also consider checking out what other customers are saying in reviews and ratings.

  • Ordering and delivery: Think about how fast and trustworthy the delivery system is. You'll want to be sure your wine arrives on time, especially if you're ordering for an event or party. Again, reviews from other buyers can give you a good idea.

  • Affordability: Make sure you’re getting good value for your money. Compare wine prices, shipping costs, and any extra fees. Bonus points if the company you’re considering has subscription options or gives special rates for bulk orders.

FAQ

Can you have wine delivered to Massachusetts?

Yes, several companies deliver wine to Massachusetts. However, not all are created equally. For instance, I highly recommend checking out Firstleaf thanks to its large selection of gourmet wines that also don’t break the bank. You also get personalized recommendations based on your preferences and tastes.

What are the best wine delivery clubs in Massachusetts?

Naked Wines is my top recommendation for this year. You get a pretty impressive array of wines that come from small, independent wineries. You’re unlikely to find many of Naked Wines’ wines in your local liquor stores. I also like the personalization questionnaire that helps you discover new wines that may suit your flavor preferences.

How does a wine club work?

Essentially, a wine club ships you new wines on a recurring basis. Shipments could be monthly, quarterly, or many other combinations. You usually pay a subscription fee and receive wines that have been curated for you. Sometimes, you can also pick and choose your own wines. This year, I suggest looking at Vinesse thanks to its large selection.
